Be sure to ask for a room upgrade. We bought the cheapest room and got a free upgrade to a king suite with full ocean view. Also, you will be charged for almost everything you use at the resort. LOCAL phone calls cost $1.50 a piece. The Folgers in room coffee costs the equivalent of $3. Fitness center costs $10 a day. We had to directly ask for turn down service two nights in a row even though we had requested it at 7pm each night. Also, when asked what kind of taxi you want in Cancun, make sure you get a small car and not a van. Taxis in Cancun charge by the size of the vehicle and the mileage traveled. You don't need to listen to the "Vacation Club" presentations in order to get your 25% discount. The only benefit of listening to them trying to get you to go to the presentation is that you get a coupon card that has a few few drinks at the hotel restaurants. Everything on the hotel strip is equivalent to American prices. Don't expected to find any good deals on anything in Cancun unless you want to be harrassed by the flea market dealers.
Beach is extremely clean and nice. Good views. Bed was extremely comfortable. Excellent location to restaurants, clubs, and shopping.
All in all, not a bad stay but from one of only a few triple diamond resorts in the world, I would expect a little bit more. The hotel was no where near capacity and it was the peak of tourist season so I would expect perfection for the price paid and the category of hotel.
