We chose this hotel for a stay in Barcelona following a cruise due to it's location on the edge of the Gothic district. Amenities were adequate and very clean, if a bit dated. We didn't use the pool and other than a cup of cafe from the bar, which was excellent, we did not use the dining facilites but they looked very nice. We heard from others that the breakfast buffet was excellent but it seemed a bit pricey to us.
Location was it's main selling point for us. It is within easy walking distance to Catalunya, the Barcelona Cathederal, the Aquarium, fun shopping and sightseeing on the waterfront and Maremagnum, the Picasso Museum and, of course, the Gothic District's main street, La Rambla.
Hotel staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English. They loaned us an electrical converter at no charge (we forgot to pack one). They also assisted us in purchasing tickets to Tablao Flamenco Cordobes, a not-to-be-missed flamenco/dinner show on La Rambla. We did quite a bit of walking at night and always felt safe. It seemed like there was always some public entertainment occurring at El Triangle just around the corner in Catalunya. One of the main transfer points / ticket kiosks for the Barcelona City Tour is also located at El Triangle near the Catalunya subway stop. The city bus tour is an excellent way to see the city. ATM cash machines are abundant and easy to ues... maybe too easy, Ha!!
Overall, Hotel Montblanc is adequate and comfortable and an excellent base from which to enjoy what the beautiful city of Barcelona has to offer.
** For significant savings, book your stay at Montblanc through Travel online rather than your cruise line. There is quite a price difference for the same room. **
