I did a lot of research to find a good, affordable hotel and was extremely pleased with Holiday Inn Express-Pacifica. It had all the amenities I was looking for: room doors on the inside of the building, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, free parking, continental breakfast and good reviews. I looked at hotels in the main tourist area of San Francisco, but all of them in my price range looked older/questionable, with doors on the exterior of the building (not a safe feature, imo), poor parking, and noisy streets. This was our first trip to California and since we were renting a car, we decided what the heck, we'd stay here because it was very near the ocean (with views of it depending on the room we got) and we wanted a restful, scenic location rather than noisy, downtown lodging.
Our experience was better than I could have imagined! We lucked out and had a partial view of the ocean! The hotel is right off Hwy 1 for easy access. The area feels safe. Hotel is up-to-date, clean and rooms are quiet. Friendly staff. Beds and pillows very comfortable. Nice showerhead in bathroom, thick towels - even a magnifying mirror! Nice kitchenette in room. Ocean is 1 block away and to the south is a public nature area with walking path. There's a non-supervised beach adjacent to the nature area. A Safeway grocery is just over the hill to the south. Two nice restaurants are a block away (dinners $20+/person). Breakfast was great w/ lots of choices: scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausage, bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, juices, coffee, fruit and more. Lobby internet computer w/ printer, plus Internet access in rooms. There was even a tray with cookies and fruit at the front desk! Great stay!!!
