Deer Lodge has a great location, less than a five minute walk from Lake Louise. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the building has the rustic charm typical of national park lodges built 100 years ago. I found the ""oldness"" very appealing, part of the charm, especially when compared to the uninspired monolith just up the road next to the lake. There is ample free parking for all registered guests at the lodge which is very much appreciated when viewing the long, long line of cars trying to get into the Lake Louise parking lot. The rooms in the old section are small but very comfortable, pleasantly decorated, and functional; the rooms in the new section are significantly larger and are typical of a nice motel. The food in the dining room is quite good and a cut above most restaurants in the area. With some of the world's best scenery and best hiking in the immediate area does anyone really need a television? My husband and I are repeat customers and plan to go back again this summer.
