We chose this small hotel because of the attractive rates and the stunning picture of the pool area, and we found it much better even than expected. Open only about one year, and not yet in many guide books, the management is working very hard to create something special. In an older building of three floors across from the Governor's Palace on the main Plaza in Merida, it has a beautifully restored inner courtyard onto which the rooms open. We say two rooms, both small but very handsomely appointed, new comfortable bathrooms, good beds, high ceilings. The entire hotel has great character and a great location. We had dinner and breakfast, the latter in the inner court, but the dinner outside around the pool. The pool is beautiful, set in a manicured garden, great privacy but a view over one wall of the top of the Cathedral's dome and its beautiful towers. There is a bar near the pool and about six tables, with food ranging from pizza made in a newly constructed brick oven to really excellent gourmet food. Everyone was helpful, the service gracious, sometimes a little slow for people just flown into the country, but always efficient and pleasant. This was our third trip to Yucatan, and this was the best hotel we found anywhere, for those who want a mix of modern comfort in a beautiful setting full of character.
