Disappointing experience in a good fancy hotel

This was a Christmas visit to family; more like a business stay as far as the hotel was concerned. Arrangements made through Online Travel Website were honored contractually by the hotel, but with obvious lack of enthusiasm. The first room they assigned us to was a handicapped room; front desk somehow didn't know that. Handicapped rooms have no decor, a low-mounted closet rods, huge bathroom that consumes a larger than usual proportion of the room's square footage, etc. Front desk response to our complaint was, "Well, it's a non-smoking king like you asked for." They did give us another room, which was a basic hotel room with ordinary business desk (pay extra for internet in your room) and very comfortable mattress (pillow top, soft surface, excellent support for an average weight couple, good isolation from sleepmate's movements). By comparison, a much less expensive booking at the same hotel through hotwire.com 2 years ago yielded a larger, pleasanter room and no attitude from the front desk. \n \nCleanliness and general maintenance of the room and public areas was excellent. \n \nSelf-parking across the street was easy, convenient and $13/day. I had quick, free access to the business center (Christmas night) to access my airline, check in and print our boarding passes. Internet usage appears to be free there. We didn't ask for any other hotel services, so can't evaluate them.
