Hastings House is not worth the money. When you spend over $500/night for a hotel, you kind of expect something a little special. This place was disappointingly run-of-the-mill. The garden was nice, the location was beautiful, and the food was not bad, but you can get the same or better anywhere else on Saltspring for less than $200. If this place were more reasonably priced, I would have fewer complaints. The problem is, at this price point, Hastings House is unforgivably stingy: The rooms were poorly heated, the breakfast was a just two small bran muffins (for three people) and lukewarm coffee, and the service was less than professional.
If you really want a special vacation, complete with "breathtaking" views, try The Aerie or Sooke Harbour House,
