The city of Hamburg is large and simply beautiful. It's a city worth visiting.

When we were in Hamburg for a couple of day a person has to eat. We always like to go out for dinner when we are in a foreign country but it’s simply something we don’t do when we are at home. It always feels like we have seen it all so it’s more fun to go out of dinner when we are on holiday. We came across this restaurant A Table. We liked the name and the menu so we decided to go inside. We liked the name of the restaurant but also the building and the decorating looked inviting. The restaurant has a good location and makes it perfect to visit after a shopping spree of after some cultural activities since it’s located in the centre of the town. It didn’t had a terrace outside but the inside what we could see looked cosy enough and from the outside you could see it was a fish restaurant and I was in the mood for some fish. It’s not a large restaurant and thinks that around 75 people can enjoy food here. The inside of the building looks very cosy with warm colours and with the use of wood. The space was quite large and the spaces between the tables was quite big so enough privacy when you are eating. I don’t mind people sitting close to me but it does always make me a big uncomfortable. I feel like people are listening into our conversation. The interior and nice and not overdone and it’s not a restaurant were you need to get dress up for. It’s mostly fish dishes they have here but I always spotted a few non fish dishes on the menu. It depends on my mood if I’m in the mood for fish and normally I just want something easy and ‘normal’ but this time I was looking forward to fish. We had a shrimp cocktail which was delicious and really tasteful! As a main meal I had crab casserole which was also delicious and came with a perfectly white sauce. It really finished off the fish and together it was a party in my mouth! My husband had a blackened redfish which looked really good but I was sticking to my meal. He said it was really nice so I was glad we both had some delicious food. The price of the dishes were not bad but it’s not a cheap restaurant either. You could tell from the outside and the dishes they offered. Fish is normally not cheap anyway. I think we spent around 80 euro’s here with both two drinks so it’s not bad in anyway and you have to consider that you are in a large city so finding a cheap restaurant is always difficult. There are toilets in the restaurant but I don’t think they are accessible for disabled people because they were a bit small. The toilets did look clean and well taken care off which is always very important to me because I hate a dirty toilets and I think it always shows what kind of restaurant it is. When they have dirty toilets how clean will the rest of the restaurant be? It always says a lot about the people working there. The staff was really attentive and polite from the first moment we walked in. We didn’t had any reservations but were lucky they still had a table for us. The service was quick and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. I always find this important and there is nothing worse then having to wait long for your food or that it’s really difficult to get the attention of a waiter. Luckily we didn’t had any problems at this restaurant. I don’t know if the restaurant is really accessible for disabled people because you had to go down a few steps and I don’t think the toilet is that good accessible. So I wouldn’t really say it’s that good accessible. It’s advisable to check the restaurant and website or even better to ring or email the people at the restaurant to find out. Worth the visit? You need to be in the mood for fish otherwise you can better skip this restaurant! It’s a lovely, good atmosphere and good food so for that I would recommend the restaurant. It’s cosy but not too cosy and you can enjoy your meal without people sitting right next to you. I give this restaurant four stars!
The first day in Hamburg we wanted of course go out for dinner in town but since we were tired of travelling we didn’t wanted anything fancy and just something easy and a bit quick. It was already getting late and we wanted the next day starting early to enjoy the city. This restaurant is located in the centre of the city and is easy to go to after a shopping trip or after visiting some museums. The Abaton-Kneipe is located in the centre of Hamburg but not in the middle of the centre. It’s located a bit outside and near the Insistute of Obenstude. It’s located on the corner of the street and it has a terrace outside so it’s especially nice in the summer. It has very busy when we arrived there and especially full of young people and students. It had a great atmosphere and looked really inviting. It’s always a good sign when a restaurant is busy because then they normally have great food and good prices. The inside of the restaurant is very young and cinema orientated with a lots of posters of movie stars and movies. It really had a nice atmosphere and it was clearly a place where students come to meet up and have a quick bite and a drink. The tables looked modern and nothing too fancy and still fine. Most important was that everything looked clean and was taken care of. That’s always the hard thing to do to make it look effortless. The restaurant is European orientated which means they have a sort of dishes like pasta to steak and bratwurst. Very different and that makes it perfect because I was in the mood for some pasta but my husband wanted meat to fill up. I had the Italian Rigatoni Casserole which was delicious. It comes with mushrooms and mozzarella cheese which I love. The dish tasted really good and fresh and not something that came out of the microwave which you sometimes see at restaurants which I hate. My husband had a simple but very tasteful steak. As dessert I had some ice-cream and my husband had some cake which was simple but nice. To finish the meal of we had some coffee. There are a lot of students here so you can already imagine that the restaurant isn’t expensive. And luckily for us the restaurant wasn’t expensive and quite cheap when you consider this is large city and the restaurant had an good location.. The pasta came for around 8 euro’s and the steak was 12 euro’s. The dessert was only 6 euro’s and coffee for around 2 euro’s. Normal prices I would say but not expensive but the food was really nice so worth the money. The toilets are in the back of the restaurant and were clearly marked as men and women. The toilets looked well taken care off and clean which is always very important. There were two toilets one for the men and one for the women and were clearly signed so no trouble there.I think the restaurant is easy accessible for people in wheelchairs. Especially in the summer it’s easy to sit outside on the terrace but it’s also possible to go inside and have dinner. You can check the website for more information or you can e-mail them or ring them so see if the restaurant is accessible for people with walking difficulties. Worth the visit?Yes I would say so. The restaurant looks modern and there is a great atmosphere. The staff is really nice but more important the food is tasteful and the prices are good. The restaurant had a good location and for the quality of food you get I think it was really a bargain. There are a lot of students which give the place a real young atmosphere which I like. I think the place is perfect when you are looking for a quick bite and don’t want to spend hours at the restaurant. Sometimes you just want to eat and go without any hassle and I think this restaurant is perfect for that. We certainly enjoy it and next time when we visit the city of Hamburg we will keep it in our mind. Four stars!
When we went to Hamburg we always make sure we have lots time for cultural activities but I always want to make sure we have enough time for some fun activities. So of course we plan some time for the most important shopping trips but also to visit a zoo. I enjoy visiting a zoo because it’s always full of life and there is always a lot to do. You can definitely spend a day in the zoo of Hamburg. The zoo is easy to find because it’s well signposted in the city and you can always ask somebody. Luckily we were with car and had our navigation system with us which always makes it very easy to find an address. Parking the car at the zoo wasn’t any problem and it’s something you just assume it wouldn’t be any problem. There was more then enough parking spaces and I noticed that it wasn’t that hard to find a parking space. The entrance to the Zoo wasn’t that far too walk but I can imagine if you are parked all the way at the end of the lot then it will be quite a walk. The entrance of the zoo wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be and we could just walk right it. After paying you get a free map of the zoo which will show you all the areas and where everything is. The Zoo isn’t that big but it’s quiet handy to have a map anyway and it even had the restaurants and toilets on it. The zoo has a large selection of animals and of course you can find elephants where and quite a few actually. The area they were in was quiet big and you had a good view on the elephants. Of course there were also lions and tigers, monkeys, penguins, rhinos and much more. I think they have like every popular animals there that you would expect from a zoo. At a few places it was a bit busy but overall we had a good view on the animals. I never forget that I visited a zoo once that was just disgusting and it was sad to see the animals in their small living spaces. Here that’s clearly not the case. The animals have a good living space and everything looks well kept. It’s clear that the people working here care for the animals because they looked well fed and their cages clean. Inside you have the aquarium and also the exotic bird area and also these looked well-kept and clean. It always gives you a more pleasant feeling while visiting a zoo when everything looks good. When you walk around the zoo you see a lot of benches, bins and a lot of staff walking around to keep everything neat and clean. They are also there to answer questions and help you with directions. Very nice staff and especially at the check out they really helped us with a smile and asked us if we had any questions before we entered. She explained a bit of the map of the zoo but it was all pretty easy to understand.Throughout the zoo you have plenty of toilets and they are also being find on the map. I went once and the toilets looked clean and well kept. They have a few disabled toilets. I think the entrance fee was around 10 euro’s for adults, which I think isn’t that much since you can spend the whole day here. There are different prices for children so I would advice to check the website for special rates. You have special rates also for groups and elderly. Worth the visit?Did we spend the whole day here? No but we stayed quite some time and had a lovely day. I think it’s more fun with children to visit a zoo but for adults it’s a nice escape and change from the more serious activities. I always enjoy watching animals and especially the elephants! For some strange reason I always like to watch them. I always find it important that the animals are well taken care of and that they have enough living space. There’s nothing worse to see animals being trapped in small contained cages and living areas. Luckily this zoo clearly loves the animals it has and takes good care of it. It’s worth a visit!

Madison HamburgGoing more to the north of Germany but we came across the town called Hamburg. Hamburg is a large city with over one million people living here. Since there are so many people here we thought it was worth a visit because there must have been plenty to do. We stayed at the four star hotel Madison Hamburg which looked inviting and had a good location since the main shopping street was within walking distance! It’s also within walking distance of the St. Michaelis Church, which is worth a visit when you visit the city of Hamburg. After entering the room I put my stuff on the bed. This was a good bed and made no sound. When I looked around the room, I saw that the room was very well finished. It had a modern touch and more important it had air conditioning which is really nice especially since it was summer. The bed was double bed and have to say it was very comfortable. The bathroom had all what you can expect from a bathroom and had a nice large bath in it. The room as well as the bathroom looked both very clean. The housekeeping came in every morning to clean and they did a very good job. I noticed that the trash was very day cleaned up and they vacuum cleaned every day what you don’t see all the time. After a good night sleeping it was time for breakfast. The breakfast was being served on the ground floor next to the area were the lounge and reception is. The breakfast was served in a large spacious room and it was a little bit busy at the time we went down. There was plenty of seats and we were welcomed by a staff member who took us to our table and asked if we wanted to have coffee or tea and within a few minutes we had a fresh can of coffee standing in front of us. The breakfast was served as a buffet which was a large selection of bread, rolls, eggs, sausages and lots more. There was also several soft drinks and orange juice. The staff was very polite and kept on refilling to make sure there was plenty. We had a few great nights at the modern hotel. You can tell it’s a four star with the excellent staff and service we received. We were very friendly welcomed and helped when the shower failed to work. Within minutes there was somebody at our room to help out. The hotel has a good location and within minutes away from the city centre. The room and especially the bed was perfect and also the breakfast was very good! I would like to recommend this hotel for people planning to stay at Hamburg.

St. MichaelisHamburg is a large city in the north of Germany and has two large cathedrals including this on the St. Michaelis. As with most cathedrals it’s located in the city center of Hamburg and you can’t miss it since it’s a big one. From the outside the cathedral looks already very impressive with its large tower which you can climb if you are up for it.When you decide to go into the church you can visit the tower and also the tomb and of course itself. You will have to pay separate if you want to go into the tomb and we decided not to go in. The tower is big and the steps are narrow and it’s a long way up. I wouldn’t recommend it when you have walking difficulties. For me the steps weren’t any problem but I was certainly glad to be all the way up. The view is amazing and definitively worth the trip. The church itself is worth looking around and there are some beautiful statues, paintings and of course the building itself is gorgeous. Five stars for me.
