Key West is Paradise

What a paradise. Great fishing, shopping and seeing how different people live. We were fortunate enough to be stationed here for two years and absolutely loved it.

The greatest thing about Key West is just being there. There is so much to do and see. It has the most beautiful sunsets from Mallory Square and free entertainment to go with it. Snorkeling trips are a lot of fun and the glass bottom boat is the greatest.${QuickSuggestions} Stay in one of the bed and breakfasts. Some great deals can be found on-line by doing a search on Key West. If you are going to be staying pretty much downtown, walking is a great way to get around. You can also take the Key West Trolley for some good historical stories and sightseeing.${BestWay} Rent a Moped or Motorcycle. If you plan on staying just in Key West, get a Moped. They're inexpensive and a lot of fun. The speed limit is 35 and under so you don't have to worry about getting ran over and they are easy to park.

Fantasy Fest

If you are going to be in Key West in October, you won't want to miss Fantasy Fest. The main street downtown (Duval Street) is closed down for a big parade. Locals and even some tourists dress up for this event which is kind of like dressing up for Halloween. You never know what you might see so be prepared. It will definitely be a lot of fun.

Sloppy Joe's is a place to go unwind and forget about everyday life. It is right on Duval Street and you can go in wearing a bathing suit or just about anything. Don't be surprised to see a dog come wandering in. The doors are totally open all the time and the entertainment is great.

I used to fish here all the time. It was one of my favorite spots. Try to get there as the tide is coming in. The big fish seem to run at that time. You can also do some great shark fishing from here as well. Use cut bait for this, and the sharks prefer the heads. I was even lucky enough to catch some lobsters from here as well using squid. You really never know what's on the hook until you get it to shore. Just go and have fun.

The Museum is great. You'll be in awe over the gold and silver items that were brought up from the Atochia. There are a lot of items which can also be bought if interested. This is a great place for treasure hunters and kids alike.
