Weekend trip in Tahoe/Reno for a wedding.

We went to Lake Tahoe for the Weekend to attend a wedding. We arrived Friday morning in Reno, drove down to Lake Tahoe and then drove back up to Reno Sunday evening for our flight out on Monday. This is the first time I had been to the Tahoe area and I must say it is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many hiking trails and lakes, that you don't need to be a skier to go there. As far as hotel pricing, I don't think it was too expensive either, compared to a lot of other areas. You can go skiing in the winter, or enjoy the outdoors the rest of the year by hiking, watersports, rock climbing, hot air ballooning, shopping, going to the casinos, etc. I would love to go back, since our time was short and there was so much to see.${QuickSuggestions} ${BestWay} I would recommend renting a car since it is quite a ways from the airport. They do have shuttle from the airport, but someone that was attending the wedding was concerned that he would not make it back in time. If you want to do any sightseeing, you pretty much need a car.
This is where the wedding was, and we got a rate of $134 for a one bedroom suite for Friday and Saturday and I believe it was $99 for the other days, of course, this was the rate for the wedding, so it might be a little more expensive if you just stayed there alone. I had read some reviews on the place before we left, and wasn't sure what to expect, but for the price, I was happy with the place. There was a bedroom, bathroom, and then another large room that was a living room/dining room area and then a kitchen area with a full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, since, coffee maker, etc. Because of the size, it didn't feel cluttered like some hotel rooms we usually stay in. It was nice to have the large fridge, although we only used it for leftovers and water, some other people had it stocked with water, food, beer, etc. I have no complaints with the room, it was clean and spacious, and reasonably priced. The wedding was also held in the little chapel area off of the lobby, it wasn't very large, but probably would fit around 50 people. We then went into a room in the back for drinks and appetizers and cake and there was a bar right next to the room. They also had a continental breakfast, which we did not eat, but it looked like a good assortment of cereals, breads/danishes, etc.The location was also wonderful. We walked right across the street and the heavenly gondola was right there along with a few shops and numerous restaurants and bars. There was also a strip mall across the other street that had a grocery store and some pizza and sub shops, so you could walk and get whatever you need. The casinos are also very close within walking distance.Overall, I would recommend this place based on the price and location.
We headed back to Reno and drove along the west side of the lake. We stopped and hiked down to Vikingsholm Mansion. The hiking information that I had gotten off of the internet before I left rated the hike as 1 mile and easy. When we got to the trail down, it had a warning for people with heart problems. So no I was a little concerned as I have some heart/lung trouble. But since we took quite a long hike almost to the top of Mt. Tallac the previous day, I couldn't understand what would be so strenous with this mile hike. I believe they rated it this was was due to the fact that alot more people go down to see Vikingsholm, many people who do not hike regular or who are older, and they might not realize the difficulty of the hike back up the mountain. Although I did get out of breath on the way up, it was not difficult at all, so if you do go down, you can always take your time and rest on the way back up. They have some docks down there also, so you can always get there by way of boat also. When we were there, unfortunately, it was not opened for tours since it was before memorial day. (We encountered quite a few areas that we wanted to go to closed also.) It is a very interested place to see and you can peak in the windows to see the old furniture and decor. You also get great views out onto the lake and the island that is out there. You can probably even take a dip in the lake here during the summer, but when we were there it was still quite cold. From here, you can hike up the the waterfall that is right there. We didn't take the hike, but I think we should have. We wanted to get going as we still had the west side of the lake to cover and wanted to stop at other areas, and we had been to a wedding the night before and were quite tired.I think it is definitely worth hiking down to the mansion and I would also recommend doing the waterfall, even though we did not
