Jekyll Island Day Adventure

My husband and I spent a Sunday afternoon at Jekyll Island. We were impressed and had a great getaway.

Jekyll Island is a neat island because it is owned by the state, the number of residents is limited, and no building permits are allowed to expand it. The island is kept as close to possible to its natural habitat, with the exception of some residents and a handful of businesses. The beaches are large with plenty of room to relax. There is also a water park on one end of the island that is open during the summer months and state-of-the-art golf courses.${QuickSuggestions} The historic district has a limited driving area. There are places to park, and then you can take a carriage ride, walk, or ride a bike. I suggest parking near the pier. There are several shops within walking distance. The trees will amaze you with their height and character.${BestWay} I suggest driving or riding a bike.

The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is like stepping back in time. The buildings remind you of the escapes for the advantaged in the ‘50s and ‘60s. We were there during the children’s golf classic and saw a group of kids out front learning how to croquet. There are nice little benches to rest and enjoy the view. The tree-lined sidewalks were beautiful and made for some nice pictures.

The beaches were large, and Blackbeard’s restaurant gives you a great view of the ocean with a nice patio to sit and relax on while enjoying the view or waiting for a table. There was another restaurant on the island called Seajays that had the most wonderful view of the sunset you could find. I recommend going early and beating out the crowd.

This is a nice relaxing island, and if you don't stay there, visit any day other than Sunday, when things close earlier.
