The most memorable moment was for my husband. When he was swimming for the scuba diving certification, the local dolphin, Jo Jo, swam beside the group and underneath one of the guys ahead of him. If you're lucky, you'll get to see him to.

I personally enjoyed the Hobie Cat and seeing the barrier reef. This is just an absolute paradise! ${QuickSuggestions} If you are expecting to shop for souvenirs, you won’t find a lot. We had friends who took a cab to a local shopping area and they said our resort’s gift shop had more to choose from. Beware: things are not cheap ether.${BestWay} We did not adventure off the resort, but did talk to a couple who rented a car and drove around the island. They enjoyed themselves and had no problems.

The room we stayed in was in the French village. It was very clean, large, and decorated nicely. The bathroom was large with a separate area for the sinks. There was a large closet and plenty of drawer space. The room was equipped with an iron, ironing board, safe, TV, clock radio, hair dryer and the air-conditioning never failed us once. The patio opened up to the pool area, and had a table and chair outside if you wanted to enjoy just relaxing near your room. Our room had a king bed and a sofa sleeper.

This restaurant was probably my favorite. We went there for a quick dinner and they happened to be serving a buffet that night. They had an incredible spread of everything imaginable -- I don't even know where to begin! I think the most exciting was the lobster; the tails were cut in half, so it made it very easy to eat. You could make your own salad, choose your own pasta with many different sauces, and there was a carving station with roast beef (this was to die for!). There was also a dessert station with more choices then you could even begin to try.

Sapodilla's specializes in white-glove service for adults only. It is a very small quaint restaurant with an a la carte menu.

I wasn't too fond of Sapodilla's. The salads didn’t have a lot of substance. I also found the food portions to be small and not very flavorful. The presentation was nice, but not high on my list of recommendations.

Hobie Cat

I was afraid of the Hobie Cat at first because I thought we would get out in the ocean and not be able to make our way back. Boy, was I glad that I finally went out. The staff assisted us with getting on the Cat and gave us a brief course in the basics and off we went! My husband sailed, so I was able to lie down and soak up the sun. The water would splash up on us as we sailed across the water, which was very nice with 90 degree temperatures in September. The water was shallow in a lot of places, so we were able to look down and see all kinds of marine life. We were in our own little world. The waves were breaking out at the barrier reef, so, of course, we had to go check it out. Be careful going out there -- you can get stuck! Don't worry: the staff keeps a close eye on you and they will come out and pick you up if needed. This is something anyone can do, even if you have never sailed before in your life -- we are living proof. Go enjoy yourself!

This is the most beautiful water I have ever seen. If you love swimming or wading in water to your neck and being able to see clearly around you, this is the place for you. The Beaches Resort was absolutely splendid. The grounds were well manicured and very colorful. The resort was very spread out, and the new section was a totally different style than the original. The new section was referred to the French Village and mimicked a small French village. There is a large swimming pool with a swim-up bar, in this part of the resort and the children’s area is close to this section as, well. The main pool is near the lobby, and this is where most of the daily activities take place i.e. pool volleyball, trivia games etc. There is also another large pool close by, but closer to the beach, it has the large waterfall, which you can swim trough. This pool also offers a swim up bar, but it was closed for remodeling while we were there. They have a photographer who comes around during the day and take pictures as you are enjoying yourself at the pool or on the beach.

Their staff is very courteous, and they will make a special trip down to the beach or anywhere you’d like to have your pictures taken (they run $10 per picture).

Beaches Resort offers lots of water sports; we spent a lot of time on the Hobie Cats -- they were a lot of fun. You can sail out to the barrier reef that runs along the coastline of the island. I did find this was the only vacation I’ve been on where I had no desire to travel off the resort property -- it was absolute heaven! We spent 90% of the day on the beach in the water; it is by fare the clearest and most beautiful water I have ever seen. Make sure you get snorkel equipment (included in the all-inclusive package) and snorkel the Fire Reef that is down the beach from the resort. If you’re lucky, you may even get to see Jo Jo, the local dolphin, swim by. My husband was swimming for his scuba diving certification and Jo Jo swam right by the group and underneath one of the guys ahead of him. It was a trip we will never forget.
