South Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. We went during the summer and there is quite a variety of things to do. Hiking, boating, playing on the beach, biking, horseback riding, and more.

Best Things About the Resort:
It is quiet and off the beaten path during the summer.

Resort Experience:
The room was clean and fairly nice. It had the hot tub in between the living room and bedroom, so if we wanted to use it after the kids were asleep we had to be quiet. It has a small refrigerator and microwave. We were able to fit milk, drinks, and leftovers in it. Tried to put a pint of ice cream in the little freezer area, but it didn't stay frozen very well.

The bedroom and living room are separated very well, and when a light is on in one of the rooms you really can't tell in the other one. Ther was a game room with a pool table, and our children really enjoyed their first games of pool. There is also a nice pool and hot tub outside, which we enjoyed. We would stay there again if we come back to the area.

The Cantina

This was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had, and it was very reasonably priced. I had the combination plate with two items, and it was less than $10. The salsa was really good also.

The only negatives were that the service wasn't that great, although it was a busy night, and the pina coladas leave much to be desired. But if you want some great Mexican food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go.

Hiking around Lake Tahoe

We were fortunate enough to get there just in time for the guided hike on this trail. It is a very easy hike and about halfway they have the stream observation chamber where they have diverted the stream so you can see the fish swimming. We saw quite a few rainbow trout, and if you are there when the kokonee salmon are spawning you will be able to see them also. It was nice to have the guide and learn all the interesting little facts he had to offer. This was a great hike for kids. Our 6-year-old daughter loved it.

Vikingsholm Castle

Vikingsholm Castle is a Scandinavian-style estate constructed in 1928. The rooms are furnished with authentic Scandinavian antiques. There are tours daily during the summer and the guide's mother knew the lady that had the house built and she summered there for 14 summers so she had quite a bit of information to offer. It is absolutely beautiful and I would definitely recommend this as a place to visit.
