South LakeTahoe-A Delight

South Lake Tahoe is a very friendly and relaxing place to visit. It offers fabulous skiing, world-class casinos, and great food and opportunites for many outdoor adventures. We've met folks from all over the world. Though we have only visited in the winter, many locals speak of the lake-related activities in the summer. It's only a 90 minute drive from the Reno airport.

For years we had heard Harvey''s was the best place to stay. Since we stayed on South Shore for 10 days, instead of checking into Stardust early, we decided to experience Harvey''s. A HUGE MISTAKE! Our hotel room was tiny, worn, and tattered. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls! Furniture looked like it came out of a third rate motel, the bed was lumpy, and the floor slanted over five inches. The refrigerator needed for medications was replaced four times before they found one that worked.

I reported my complaints to front desk and they said to "write a letter to management". I did, but got a form letter in return. For $89 night mid-week, we expected better. The staff were rude and unhelpful. I will never step foot in Harvey''s or Harrah''s ever again!

This is a favorite restaurant for locals and repeat visitors alike. It has a casual relaxing interior, with cedar walls and vaulted ceilings, featuring large black and white photos of old Tahoe. The friendly wait staff make family dining a positive experience. Thye offer a varied menu that is reasonable in price -- the best breakfast special ($2.99) on the south shore and many lunch specials for $5.99. For dinner, we love the salmon special ($8.99), but others rave about the prime rib special ($7.99). They make a different homemade soup every day, warm freshly baked sourdough bread, and yummy desserts. You just can''t go wrong if you eat here. In 14 years, we''ve never had a bad meal here.

No reservations accepted, but since it gets crowded on weekend evenings, you may experience a 15-20 minute wait if you want to eat between 5:30-6:30pm. The adjacent casino bars run $2.00 drinks, beer, and wine daily.

All the casino staff are dressed in togos and are very friendly. You may even see Caesar walking about! Many interesting shops on site. Restaurants are also wonderful, from the family oriented cafe/buffet to the fine dining Italian restaurant. Several great after-ski parties in the bars. Caesars books many great entertainers for one night performances.
