Long Weekend on Loch Rannoch

We had a lovely weekend, and we were extremely lucky with the weather. The area is fairly remote, so you'll need your car, but be prepared for breathtaking scenery.

Best Things Nearby:
The Lovely views, beautiful woodlands, and the Scottish hospitality.

Best Things About the Resort:
The timeshare was really huge, as we were only two adults and two dogs we had loads of room. We were situated right on the Loch, and we had a lovely en-suite sauna.

Resort Experience:
After a very long drive from Yorkshire, we finally arrived at the timeshare. We were overjoyed at the beautiful surroundings. There was some ongoing upgrading of units at the site, and I think that's why we were given such a large unit. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, with everything you could need for a four course meal for eight people. We even had a cocktail cabinet, no booze supplied though!

It was great that we were able to take our dogs with us as not many places allow dogs anymore. The lounge had 'leather' type furniture which was very comfy and a great balcony over the Loch. The master bedroom was very large and had an en-suite sauna, which was great after a long day trekking the woodlands. The resort offered an indoor swimming pool and many outdoor activities. Also the hotel has a good bar and restaurant.

The nice thing about the restaurant was that it embraced everything Scottish. The decor was mainly tartan and smart, and the food was delicious local fare. It was very well presented, and the service was good.

Edradour Distillery

This is said to be the smallest distillery in Scotland. It was very small, and very difficult to find, but worth it as we came away with Christmas presents for both sets of parents and a little something for ourselves. You can go on a tour if you like, but we went straight to the shop and they sell some quite interesting things, like tea towels, jams and marmalades, small gift ideas, and of course whisky. Very nice.

We came for the walks

As we had our dogs with us, we spent quite a lot of time walking and finding new walks. Up the road from the resort we found some great woodlands where we could walk our dogs for a couple of hours at a time. And if you go back into the village and then turn right following the Loch there were some great walks also.

The scenery was fantastic and the air was fresh. We felt very lucky to be there. Also if you go into Pitlochry, which is about 30 minutes drive away, there is some good shopping. Try the local oat cakes and some good strong cheese, the local baking is good, and the jams and marmalades are interesting and refreshing. Of course finding the local distilleries for fine whiskies can take all day (hiccup)!
