Description: Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino is the largest hotel property on either side of St. Martin and combines a wide range of resort amenities with Las Vegas glitz, thanks to the presence of an onsite casino facility. Somewhat unusual also, is the close-up view you will probably have from your balcony of incoming jets just hundreds of yards away making the final descent into nearby Juliana Airport.
Located on 10 acres of land, the hotel features two pools, four tennis courts, three restaurants and as mentioned, a casino. There is also a spa - called the Good Life Spa - and fitness center up on the eighth floor, the fitness equipment is fairly extensive although the floor area feels somewhat crowded. The rooms on upper levels have recently been renovated and are decorated in a much more pleasing earth tone combination of colors. The lobby areas are huge and with over 500 rooms, even the main building's elevators sometimes seem to have a problem keeping up with the demand at peak hours of the day. Nearby restaurant and nightclub facilities make the immediate street areas the easiest way to get out and find some more dining and entertainment variety by foot. You can also drive down to Simpson Bay, about 5 minutes away, and find a lot more dining spots and shopping. Plan your time carefully for any outings that take you further afield, since traffic can become monumental at rush hours along the coastal road that takes you past Simpson Bay and down into Philipsburg.
