Village Hotel & Leisure Club Swansea
As soon as we walked in the inside was very modern, the carpet was multi coloured that matched the interior design as well as the facilities inside the hotel. The hotel was quite warm inside which helped being a quite cold day outside.
There were sofas inside the hotel as you walked in, where the reception was, and there was sofas just outside of Starbucks, just where the entrance to the hotel was. We could also see the indoor swimming pool from the window of the Starbucks coffee shop to the right.
My first impressions of the place were that the hotel was modern, and clean being a four star hotel, and the hotel staff seemed helpful. The hotel was located slightly outside of the town centre. The hotel was quite big and modern in appearance and it looked quite good. The hotel from the outside looked clean and modern as it appeared that it had been newly built and well maintained.
There was a large car park which was full of cars. Inside the buidling were a lot of people, some were businessmen and women, as well as golfing holiday makers and a variety of other people. The guests appeared quite wealthy which made us feel a bit out of place, though we could at least afford to stay a night in this place.
We paid £39 in a one off sale which was very reasonable indeed. Usually this place is much more expensive, so we did get an excellent deal indeed. At the time of booking we noticed there was a travelodge though this seemed more expensive at £50 which the Travelodge was located near nightclubs and further out of town and lower grade hotel. We booked a twin room which was excellent throughout. The hotel had leisure centre and pub facilities as well as a Starbucks and a grill restaurant which was where the breakfast buffet was served which cost an extra £9.50p.
The breakfast was served between the hours of 8:00 until 10:00. Those people who arrived at 9:00 for example, had to queue up for breakfast. Most people we noticed at this time were at the leisure centre at this time. The hotel does not just have a swimming pool, a sauna and a spa area, but the hotel also has aerobic and a gymnasium room which was reasonably sized and had quite loud music. There was a lot of people using the gym. A lot of gymnasium facilities including body pump, free weights, exercise bikes, rowing machines and general fitness matts. The hotel also had daily exercise routines which included events for over 50's and for general usage by other age groups. People staying here could use the facilities as this was included in the price.
The Starbucks was where we had breakfast which consisted of of muesli which was nice and warmly served which cost £4. My friend had fruit bread and coffee which set us back just £3. We both had medium sized beverages. The breakfast decor of the Starbucks was excellent being similar to the mainstream London restaurants. The chairs and carpets were similar to the hotel's pub. The colour of the carpets were multi coloured and there were nice bright colours, yellow, gold, dark red. Everyone in the hotel seemed friendly during our whole stay.
Very quiet surroundings as the leisure centre is by the road, which means that there is no noise from traffic because the rooms were at the opposite side of the leisure centre. The hotel also had a regular bus stop called the 'winter s1' which was located just outside. The bus stop was noticeable just outside the hotel. The road itself had not been fully built as there had been a recent regeneration of the area.
The room we stayed in, was spacious for a twin room. When we walked in there was a desk with a large LCD screen on it. There was an iPod stereo charger. To switch the lights and use the heating and air conditioning systems, we had to place our room card into the slot. As we opened the cupboards there was a kettle so that we could make cups of tea and coffee. Also there were chocolate biscuits, digestives, then we opened another drawer and there was a hairdryer, and the one drawer underneath that, contained a set of extra towels.
The service we received was very good by hotel industy standards. By this I mean that the lady at the reception guided us to the swimming pool and we saw the changing room facilities as well as a tanning machine. This experience we felt was like going to a spa. We also asked the reception lady about the breakfast and she told us that we could not have breakfast in the room, as we did not pay the extra £9.50p, per person, as we decided to have cheaper priced breakfast at Starbucks. Besides this we were not feeling hungry during that morning. My friend already knew the Swansea area quite well so we did not have to ask the reception staff for directions. The hotel reception staff would certainly have helped in this scenario.
Around the desk area was a large wardrobe which also contained a iron and ironing board. The wardrobes had space where we put our bags on, there were loads of clothing hangers and then there were lamps sized both tall and small throughout the room, we could switch them on or off in two locations which we could do when we entered the room. The room also had air conditioning system and a warming heating system. These air and heating switches were located to the right of the entrance to the room. The bedroom also had two extra pillows inside the wardrobe. The bed was nice and comfortable, not too hard and not too soft and was nice and clean. The mattress was nice and white coloured because the rest of the room was brown coloured. This went well as there was a multi coloured stripy carpet which matched the curtains colours in the hotel lounge area.
The bathroom had a nice combined room having a bathroom and a shower room. There was a towel rail opposite the shower head. Also there was a hand towel, which was heated, which was located next to the toilet. As we brushed our teeth there was a large mirror as well a magnifying mirror on top of that which was large and wide sized. The bathroom area also contained soap, and shower gel by a brand called Lux. This overall was a nice added extra which we did not have to pay extra money for. The shower was also great quality in terms of that there was plenty supply of hot and cold water. I was also aware that the shower was well powered, unlike some other hotels that I have visited recently.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, being my first trip to Swansea in over fifteen years, it was absolutely excellent. We could not find a better priced hotel to book in Swansea nor most of the United Kingdom for this sort of money at such short notice and for a four, yes four star hotel. We stayed here one night in early January 2010. In the immediate location were restaurants though the area was quite expensive being a regenerated area. The local area also had an art gallery inside a converted church. There was also a nice passenger foot bridge which went over the river which enabled us to see both new and old style museums in Swansea. The hotel was in close proximity to the nightlife and shopping facilities in the City Centre. I also found the locals in Swansea as well as in Cardiff very friendly as well. This became a noteable point during my visit of a few major places in Wales. Other information regarding the hotel was that there was a free car park facility for guests as well as there was excellent disabled access to the hotel.
I shall be returning to Swansea again, and this hotel is highly recommended. I was highly pleased by the hotel facilities as well as the very low price paid for the hotel. If I find such an excellent offer again, I will no doubt take it up. I recommend this place very highly as it is well located, the place is suitable for a wide range of people as this place in my opinion provides them with high standards of facilities, cleanliness, comfort and a great place to see Swansea. I have also left pictures of the outside building as well as the bathroom facilities which simply shows how excellent the place is.
