Description: I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel back in early December, also as part of a business/soccer trip. The front desk manager was very helpful in assuring that I received their non-profit room rate, which was about $15 less per night than my best discount rate (AARP I think). At $70 per night, this was a very nice lodging choice.
Rooms are spacious and the furnishings very comfortable. During both of my visits I had a king room which also included a comfy oversized chair with ottoman. All rooms have free wi-fi and the bathrooms are stocked with nice toiletries.
This particular location (they have several throughout the Midwest) has a small meeting room on the second floor which is where our soccer meeting was held back in December. There is also a sitting area in that area which makes for a nice place to sit and read a book or something.
Back on the first floor, the lobby has a fireplace and another sitting area with a wall mounted flat screen TV. It is very cozy, especially when you come in from the snowy outdoors.
While they do not have a full service restaurant, they do have a breakfast room, also with a fireplace. Breakfast cereals (hot & cold), breads and muffins, fresh fruit, and biscuits & gravy are all available to eat. Beverages include coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk and fruit juices.
Right off of the lobby, they do have a small lodge style bar/lounge. Each night that I've stayed here, there has been a small gathering of people in this area enjoying conversation and adult beverages.
The location of this hotel is perfect for anyone coming to Wausau for business or play. Speaking of play, they are about 10 minutes from Rib Mountain, home of Granite Peak Ski Resort. There are also several other areas for outdoor activities. During my most recent visit, there was a snowmobile event in the area, so the hotel was full of folks in town for the weekend.
One other comment about the friendly and helpful staff; because of the weather forecasts during my visit, I was a bit unsure of my general plans. I added Saturday night to my Friday only reservation on Friday morning. Once in town, however, it became clear that my plans to head north to Antigo for the sled dog races were in jeopardy, so on Saturday morning I asked about canceling my Saturday night stay, even though it may be late in the morning before I could make that decision.
They were accommodating, allowing me to cancel at 11:30am and check out late at 2:00pm. (Normal check out is noon.)
I cannot speak highly enough for the level of customer service I have received here during my two visits to Wausau. Whenever I am in this area, they will always have my business!
