Omorfi Poli: Clean, Convenient, Friendly

The Omofi Poli in Nafplion was by far the best place we stayed on this trip; not that there was anything wrong with our other accommodation. The family that runs this pension in the centre of Nafplion went above and beyond for us whenever they could.

The pension is a restored Neoclassical house from the 19th century. It has seven rooms on the first floor (or second floor for Americans). Each room is named and is decorated in a different way. We booked a double room on booking.com and wondered how we were going to cope with Sofia (14 months old). To our surprise they had a family room for us when we arrived. This room had two separate bedrooms as well as a loft above one of the rooms. They also provided us with a baby cot for Sofia. Five or six people could easily have stayed in there. In addition there was a refrigerator, storage area and small table with chairs. Floors were all tiled.

One thing I have to mention about our room is that there was a painting of a sailor above the bed in the smaller room. It started to creep me out after a while. The man’s hand was huge and it started to really annoy me. I can be a bit strange like that sometimes. It had no bearing on the room at all—I just stopped looking at it.

The owners were always available at reception or in the breakfast room if you needed anything. Sofia needed some medicine and they helped us out with a pharmacy since it was a weekend and only certain pharmacies are open then. They found the number and called to make sure it would be open when we arrived.

Breakfast was served in the breakfast room on the main floor. It wasn’t a buffet, but were given fresh bread and homemade orange marmalade, yogurt, fruit, cheese, meat, coffee and juice. It was plenty enough. Even my daughter, who manages to go on an eating strike every time we go on holiday, managed to eat some food with us.

Everything in the room was clean and comfortable with a view down one of the narrow streets towards the port. The location is convenient, especially to the parking area (see note below). It was a short walk to the main square and there were plenty of shopping and museum opportunities along the way.

When we went to check out we chatted for a while with one of the charming owners. All guests receive a jar of their homemade orange marmalade when they depart. It was a really nice touch to the end of our stay.

*NOTE* There is no parking directly at the hotel. Yes, there is a large car park down at the harbour. That said, it was very busy and I can see that at certain times it might be an issue. I think some of it may come down to when you arrive at the car park. We visited in January which is low season.
