My wife and I usually stay at the Mandarin Oriental in KL but we took a chance on the less expensive but equally well-located and newer Impiana. Overall, we would recommend but there is room for improvement. Strong points include: 1) convenient location opposite KL Convention Center, 2) beautiful hardwood floors in the room 3) a decent gym plus a pool that seemed to be 20m long which is Ok for lap swimming and 4) free wifi. Room for improvement included: 1) APPALLINGLY INCOMPETENT AND FRUSTRATING checkin where 4 front desk staff TOLD us to sit and wait while they figured out why they had no record of our reservation even though I had a printed copy of it, 2) while pool itself is nice, it overlooks an active construction site which rather detracts from the ambience, 3) there is no control to change channels of the single TV in the gym which is frustrating if you bike for an hour and are not a great fan of watching rugby football and prefer BBC World or CNN.
I do have to compliment the duty mnager who had the balls to face me after I complained about the front desk staff. It des not excuse the incompetence but it shows that there is a manager who has some level of care and involvement in the day to day operations of the business.
We would stay again IF we were told that the areas for improvement we identified had been addressed.

My family and I stayed over at the Impiana KLCC during the Asia Pacific USANA Conference 2008 over at the KL Convention Centre. To my surprise, this hotel is just less then 100 meters away from the convention centre. Whilst I spent my 3 full days at the conference, my wife and 2 kids had a good time exploring the surroundings. KLCC Suria and Pavillion Shopping Centre which is like less then 5 mintues walk from the hotel, have so much to offer for shopping. When it come to eating, we would recommend the Madam Kwan's at KLCC or the Dragon-I at Pavillion. YUMMY! Food courts at both of the shoppping centres have so much varities to offer. Name it local dellights, Japanese, Korean, Western, they have it all! You be spoilt for choice!.
Then there is the Aquaria KLCC just at tbe basement of the convention centre. Imagine seeing sharks right in the heart of the city!! My kids love the playgroung at the KLCC Park. They are all just at the Hotel door step. We enjoyed our stay very much and cantt wait to be here again during the school holidays and the KL Mega Sales!
