I travel regularly to Brussels where I usually stay a night in 1 of the many hotels Brussels is rich. In Brussels, I always stay in "The Dominican", which is affiliated to the chain "Designer Hotels". This hotel is always very well like me and I love staying at the hotels of the chain.

The Dominican hotel a four star hotel and is located in a quiet side street in the center of Brussels and 5 minutes walk from the metro station. The hotel is characterized by a large vertical banner that hangs on the facade. The building is on the outside finished with a cream-colored stucco. This gives the building a more modern and luxurious look. The most striking feature of the hotel is the lighting with bright colors that is used. Combined with the sleek design and used largely white, gives the hotel a playful, designer-like appearance.

The staff is very friendly and service oriented. I have now been here several times and I’m always greeted with a smile. There is staff ready to assist you with your luggage, but because I often have with me no more than 1 hand luggage suitcase and a briefcase, I find it always so wastefull that someone's going to spend time with me.

The first time I had a one person room booked. The room is almost entirely in shades of brown and white interspersed with here and there a bright color for a change. Because the room is not too large (approx 15m2 including the bathroom), was this is a smart choice. Where I was positively surprised by was the fact that there is no carpet in the rooms is laid. They have made use of tiles that resemble wooden planks. Coincidentally, all the same tiles in our bathroom that they have used only a little lighter.

The room has a large bed with 1 single mattress, so no seams. The mattress is pretty thick and sturdy and well. I've always slept on these mattresses. Because the room has a limited area, they chose to take a folding desk (open the lid down) to create your bed which will serve as chair. This is a very well for a short period of time to do, but it is obviously not ideal.

Furthermore, the room has an LCD screen which is placed behind glass. When the TV is so good he can be used as a mirror. The minibar can be found under the desk and fold is folded into the wall. In fact, the minibar is running sideways making it less space consuming. The minibar is well filled, but I have no further use and can not say much about prices. However, it is helpful that you have the temperature of the minibar can set and that there is still room on your own stuff to store (although there is 1 bottle of water out of the minibar, in the niches beside the LCD screen, which you free allowed to drink. I set this often in the minibar for cooling).

The most impressive (at least I thought) is the "iHome clock radio". This is a clock radio which you can connect your iPod. He serves as a stereo system (with remote) and as an alarm clock waking you up with your favorite music. Also he immediately charge the iPod. Naturally, there is no sound world from such a small kit, but still a nice addition to the room. When I ff is a nice book to read is always nice to have the radio on there.

The bathroom is immediately opposite the entrance. He was with me at first closed by a beautiful sliding door that almost blends into the rest of the wall. The above-mentioned floor is pulled through in the bathroom, which by means of a sliding door is separated from the rest of the chamber. The bathroom has a shower (the entry is a bit tight) shielded by glass on one side (right of the entrance) and the toilet on the other side. In the middle of the basin is placed. The shower is equipped with an efficient showerhead that provides enough power suits. You also have access to a hand shower that I usually use the shampoo out of my hair to get. You will find a small selection of shampoos, conditioners, shower gel and body lotion made from organic ingredients. The bottles have a decent size (I unfortunately forgot to see what was the content), but after showering 2 times, I still had more than half in the bottle. The smell of fruit predominates in all variants, which I personally really liked it.

A wonderful, modern hotel where I've been twice now and have recommended to colleagues of mine. The frequent use of white alternating with bright colors (with or without light effects) give the hotel a clean look. The staff is very friendly and service oriented. Free WiFi is a strong plus for this since they usually have to pay extra for.
The rooms are a bit on the small side, but by making effective use of the spaces has a great atmosphere.

As I have said before I rate my lodgings on a few things; size of the room for the cost, cleanliness, friendliness and helpfulness of the front desk staff and proximity to other things to see and do in the area. Considering the cost for one night, this is not a hotel for a budget and the very high end feel hits you just walking in the door.

For that money you do get plenty of amenities, including a fitness center, bar, restaurant and a business center. None of which we actually used, but after almost three weeks in Europe we were happy to have an ice machine on our floor and had purchased the upgraded package so we could have mini bar and movies (in English!). The room was a good size, plenty of room to get around for two people, the only down side was that all the desk, chairs and tables were on one side of the room so I had no where to put my items other than my nightstand.

The bathroom was very big and modern with a bath and separate shower. I am not sure that I like the full length mirror next to the toilet, but everything was clean so no complaints.

The hotel is in a great location, not far from the Grand Palace or the Central Station (hint - look to go out the Horta exit, it is closer to the hotel and you can take escalators down versus walking down some fairly steep sidewalks), and close to lots of stores and restaurants. We had been in Brussels for five nights earlier in the week so we knew where to go, but even if you have just arrived it will not take long to find anything you would be looking for. We made use of the in rooms refrigerator / mini bar and filled it with local Belgian beers from one of the many beer shops to help with the chore of packing for home.

Most of the front staff was helpful, one help us figure out the best way to get to the airport (take the train from Central Station, it is fast and inexpensive compared to a cab and they leave at least once an hour) and the bartender was really nice, opening the corked bottles for us even though we were not drinking in the bar. The only true negative about the whole stay was the gentleman checking us in. He ignored us when we entered and was brief with us every time we spoke with him. While we may not have looked the part of a high-end hotel guest with our backpacks and I gather slightly younger than the typical guest, that should not mean we should not get the same attention and courtesy as other guests.
