Our first visit to Costa Rica certainly won't be the last, thanks to this hotel. The hotels gray hard stone exterior doesn’t scream the warmest welcome, but never judge a book by its cover. It’s from inside where the magic begins. The warm welcome from the front desk was quick and easy, which read our minds. The rooms were very clean and straightforward with fresh sheets and towels. The beds mattress was better than I expected; and I slept like a baby. The bathroom was rather spacious; enough for the two of us to move around. A new water boiler was installed, making a nice hot shower after a long adventurous day very rewarding. We got a room with windows that looked out to a small garden. We would siesta during the late afternoons with the windows open and the screens closed, so only the cool spring breeze would blow in. And if you were as lucky as we were, you could hear the humming of the humming birds right out your window. The meals were simple but well prepped with an occasional international twist to it.
But what really set this place apart from the rest is the family that resides there, the heart and soul of hotel el Viandante. The owner and his wife, Renzo & Grace, were great, down to earth, fun loving, and adorable couple. Who went above and beyond their duty making sure we were not only having the time of our lives, but made sure of our safety and well being. They gave great suggestions and helped plan the other half of our trip for us. The week just flew by and lets just say it was a pleasure knowing Renzo and his lovely family; especially his 5 yr old son Paolo and 2 yr old daughter Giulia. We travel a lot and it gives us a sweet smile to find little special places like this; our home far away from home.
