Movenpick Would Not Always Be My Pick

About Movenpic hotels:
The Movenpic hotels are part of a multi national group of exclusive 5* hotels which began in Swizerland that state their aim as:
"Thirteen thousand people, over one hundred professions, and one shared goal: to pamper guests and to live authentic hospitality. Each and every day. "

The Movenpic Tangier:
From the outside this hotel is quite modern and looks very imposing . It is on the outskirts of Tangier right down the beachfront it is about 10 minutes drive from the main town so it is not really handy for getting to the town for awalk, you would need a taxi. However the setting offers lovely views of the coast, harbour and out to sea.I would think that the way the hotel is built that there would ot be many rooms without a good view.

Inside the hotel;
It is a very luxurious and expensive hotel the entrance lobby is beautiful with a definite Moroccan feel - settings of cushions on the floor round a Morrocan tea pot set, heavy wooden decorated furniture long floaty curtains from the ceiling - all very atmospheric.

Our room:
Our room had a really nice view of the ocean with a balcony and had Moroccan furniture and crisp white sheets on a very comfortable huge bed and there were fantastic posh toiletries for the bathroom. The bathroom was huge with shower and bath, hairdryer plush fluffy, thick towels .There was adjustable air conditioning/ heating, even a bathroom phone,.The TV with remote, a direct dial phone, a desk with power points and a lamp, a hairdryer, a minibar, a modem data port, a multi-closet, a newspaper and a safe. - all you could desire really and we we thrilled with it all. Especially when we saw the prices for a night's stay on the notice inside the room - £100 plus night.

The hotel generally, food service :
The main parts of the hotel were beautifully appointed, open and attractive. There was a Moroccan style restaurant with cosy looking seated areas with low tables, cushions and floaty silk-like curtains. However our tour included a buffet at another restaurant ,smart looking if rather ordinary which served nice food but nothing amazing. Food offered was rather bland, rice, couscous and salads with unappetising meat dishes not at all tempting. The service was the same, okay but certainly --not 5* more like 3*.

We wanted to join a couple of tables together so we could sit with our friends but the staff with reluctant and so we had to do all the furniture moving ouselves. It wasn't a though they were terrifically busy serving as it was a buffet meal and the restaurant was not that busy either. Having started badly they then messed up te drinks order and forgot three drinks. If these were young students working at a summer job in a bar I could forgive them but not in a big International hotel.

The real disappointment came at breakfast a very limited buffet - not good enough for a hotel of this standard. Pastries and croissants, some cooked food like eggs, fried bits and pieces - no yogurt and very limited fruit and juices. Compared to other hotels in the 5*standard it was average to poor.

We sat in a small no smoking area, someone decided to smoke - I realise that smoking is not as unpopular as it is in Europe but in a hotel of this standard care should be taken to give diners a smoke free environment.

The piano bar was again very luxurious with comfortable seas and an open airy feeling but the service merely adequate - again no help to re-arrange furniture for our group to sit together ands a rather casual interest in serving us from the bar.

Extras:
There was a lovely looking swimming pool and a casino which we did not go into. We were only there for one night so really only experienced the restaurants and piano bar apart from the general areas and room.

Summary :

240 rooms -Casino - Swimming - Restaurants - Piano Bar - Fitness Center - Jaccuzzi - Hammam - Sauna - Massage - Equestrian center tennis and golf in the vicinity- Airport transfers.

So a very smart looking hotel with great facilities but the restaurant and bar service let them down big time.
