The Westin Dragonara is a luxury 5-star hotel perfectly located in St. Julian's, a quick walk to great restaurants, bars, and some beautiful scenery that typifies Malta. It certainly seems to be one of the best places on the island to stay, and cost just $100 US/night when we were there.
The hotel features a state-of the art fitness center with spa services, and a beautiful outdoor pool and lounging area overlooking a rocky beach on the Mediterranean Sea. It also has a well-maintained casino, which I was disappointed to find had a very limited selection of games; really just slots, roulette and blackjack.
The lobby is a huge, formal, marble affair with a piano bar and massive vases of fresh flowers at every turn. Rooms are oversized and every single one features a big terrace with a full ocean view. All the amenities you'd expect in a top-notch hotel chain are available, and the service was quite good, though they did miss a wake up call or two!
We ate one night at one of the hotel restaurants, an Italian place called Palio's. The most outstanding feature was the almost obscenely huge size of each of the dishes... just an appetizer was enough to fill us up! The food was good, not fantastic, and the service was friendly but slow. I wouldn't highly recommend Palio's, as there are other, more interesting restaurants on the island.
All in all, the Westin Dragonara was a lovely place to stay, especially for the very low price.
