Very Good - If Basic - Accomodation

After our experience with a Nomads in Auckland - we were less than anxious to stay at another one to say the least. And to spend one of our precious days in Fiji at a grubby backpacker hostel was the last thing we had planned.

However - after a few wrong turns, mixed up bookings and cash disappearances, we were in need of a simple, cheap place to stay one night in Nadi in between island hopping. And because we didn't know what was on offer in the area (and with no real way of finding out) and at least had some idea of what to expect of a Nomads, we reluctantly made our booking, and spent the entire boat ride back to Viti Levi dreading the night's stay.

So what we found when we arrived was more than a pleasant surprise.
It's not the most inspiring of hotels, certainly - but it is leaps and bounds above the Fat Camel in Auckland, or in fact any backpackers we stayed at. It's more like a basic hotel - with some dorm accommodation.

There is a youthful presence here, but the atmosphere allows for all kinds of travellers, as we discovered on our arrival.

There is no beach, or stunning view - or great location, although it is just minutes from the Nadi airport and they offer a free shuttle bus to and from. (a very nice, air conditioned shuttle bus that was very punctual)

The atmosphere was fantastic, the entire place was very clean -and the rooms were better than average. They were pretty standard hotel rooms, but after all the bures, love shacks and dorms we'd experienced in Fiji, it was kind of a relief to spend one night in a normal hotel. The room was air conditioned and had hot water in the en suite bathroom (neither of which is easy to find in Fiji, even on the island resorts)

All in all I was just very impressed with it. The staff were good, we booked a day before hand and had no problem getting a room. They have a great little restaurant with decently priced meals, a good menu and pretty tasty food. There is a big screen TV and pool table in one of the common areas, but it was used by all travellers - and didn't give the place a backpacker feel at all. We shared a few Fiji Gold beers with our meal and watched the start of the Olympics on the big screen, and ended up having an excellent night of repose from the travel of Fiji.

The pools were great, of which we had free usage - and they even had laundry rooms to be used - which worked extremely well.

The room rates were approx $70 pn for a standard room (less for dorms and up to $145 for family rooms.) So a pretty good price for Fiji.

IF you just need a clean and comfortable place to stay for the night, on your way to or from the islands - I can recommend this as a place that will do the job.
They even had a pretty decent little souvenir shop with well priced items, something that is surprisingly hard to find in Fiji.
