Good Hotel Option when Staying in Austin

The main upside to the Residence Inn Austin Downtown is its location. Located on between Trinity and San Jacinto and between 3rd and 4th Streets, you are only a couple of blocks from the 6th Street action. Also, just head north on Trinity about 17 blocks and you are on the campus of the University of Texas staring at the awe inspiring DKR Memorial Stadium. The hotel itself is also nice, equipped with a full kitchen, small living area with a desk, sofa with a hide-away bed (which would be great if you have kids traveling with you or a larger group crashing for the night), and a flat screen TV, and a bedroom with an attached bathroom and an additional flat screen TV. The hotel was very clean and the staff was extremely helpful and polite. In the morning, they serve a full breakfast downstairs (which looked good, but we never tried given the dining options you won't want to pass up in Austin). Although overall I was pleased with this hotel, there were some drawbacks. The largest was the fact that the bed was only a queen size bed. My wife and I have enough trouble not disrupting each other in a king sized bed, so this made for some restless nights. I could imagine for some people this would have made it extremely difficult to get a good night's sleep. Also, I have stayed in other hotels in the downtown area, but for some reason, at this hotel it seemed like I could hear every siren, car horn, or dumpster truck that passed by even though we were on the 11th floor (was not a constant disruption, but a disruption nonetheless). All in all, I would recommend this hotel, especially if you can find a good deal (keep in mind that parking is extra: at the time of this review $16/day for self parking and $21/day for valet). And if you can sleep well on a queen bed, this may be the hotel for you.
