Great Condo Across from One of the Best Snorkelling Beaches

We stayed in unit 1-PH3 which is, in the first block near the road, so a sea view , and PH3 is one of the Penthouse Units, eg top floor. Not much noise from the road at night if the windows are closed, occasionally you'd hear a car, but the area was pretty quiet at night, and it was nice to be able to see the sea in the daytime from our large balcony (had a table that seated 6). It was also only about 45 minutes from the airport. It can be busy across the road at the beach in the day, but not busy or noisy enough for us that it was an issue.

This condo was an immaculate 3 bedroom unit, which we rented through Abbey Vacations as the agent, who I would definitely recommend, they were easy and efficient to deal with (including on refund of the deposit after our stay), which always helps when renting an apartment owned by a person rather than a company.

The beach nearby is incredible for snorkeling, I was taking pictures underwater and the only problem was that often the fish were too close to get in focus ! Plenty of turtles, some days in only a few inches of water at the shoreline, and its nice to be so close to the beach, where you can walk rather than drive.

A couple of minutes away by car (not walkable) is a shopping centre with supermarket, some fast food restaurants, cinema and bank. 10-15 minutes slow drive (the road speed limits go as low as 15mph) is the 'main drag' with lots of restaurants and shops, but nice to be away from that. There are also some nice sandy beaches a few minutes drive away though they did have quite high surf when we were there, so not suitable for small kids - this may be a time of year thing. We were there in October.

A car is really essential if you stay here, it was necessary to drive to get anywhere except the beach across the road, not an issue for us but something to be aware of if you don't drive. Though to be fair, this probably applies to the entire Big Island, without a car, you are going to miss out on a lot. We drive down to the volcanos area from here and back on the same day, a long but worthwhile day and the drive back was in the dark on unlit roads ( again, not a problem but perhaps useful for others to know.

If I was going to go back to the Big Island, I would almost certainly stay here again.
