Grange House

This is located in a small cul-de-sac in the suburbs around Galway city, with most of the surrounding houses also being B&Bs. Given there is only parking spaces in front of the B&B for a few cars, in busy seasons it could be difficult to get parked. Being in a cul-de-sac and also backing on to Merlin Park, means that the location is quite quiet, even with the window open. However, it is off one of the main roads into the city which can make it a difficult place to get in and out of at rush hours.

The room was quite comfortable, bright and reasonably roomy for a B&B, and having seen several other rooms in the B&B that seems to be the standard. There was a TV and kettle in the room. All the rooms are ensuite. However, the standard of cleanliness was less than perfect, not the worst I've ever seen but certainly not the best either. The bedclothes were crisp and clean and fresh towels each day. However, it was attention to detail that left some- the mugs left to make tea were fairly grim and stained, the window blind was broken, the shower had not been cleaned properly.

The breakfast was fine - with a choice of cereals, porridge, yoghurts, fruit, toast and cooked breakfast - and even cereal bars if you are runing late and don't have time to sit down like I did one morning. The lady who runs the B&B was quite chatty and made us feel very welcome, and was very efficient at getting breakfast sorted. She also was quite willing to provide information about the area and make suggestions.

Its location is several miles out of the city centre, and so really only suitable if you have a car. The area around it is mainly residential, and there is a limited selection of places to eat.

There are quite a selection of places to stay in Galway, Grange House is an average place to stay- its comfy and quiet. Its location isn't great - in that its out of the centre. I probably would stay here again as I know its okay rather than chance somewhere else especially if I was travelling alone. However, there are nicer places to be found - it was okay but not perfect
