Stayed at the Holiday Inn in Kyoto in April 2008. Although we had an idea that this was a it out of town we still decided to stay here as this was the only place that had availability for both nights.
Location - Kyoto is fairly small and most of the important sites are in the central district. I would highly recommend staying in that area. While there are bus stops near by to the hotel, I think this hotel is a bit out of the way.
Cleanliness - The rooms and bathroom where okay, but in great need of an update. Very 70s/80s.
Public Transport - There are bus stops near by and the hotel has a shuttle that runs every hour or so to the main rail station. But I think the shuttles stop running at 5 or 6 pm.
Staff - Friendly and accomodating. They allowed us to leave one day earlier with no penalty.
Misc - There is internet available to guests in the lobby. The hotel is connected to a shopping mall, so there are some shopping and dining options near by.
We ended up staying in a centrally located hotel on the 2nd night and that made the visit to Kyoto a lot more enjoyable.
