Cozy B&B in Old Part of Muttenz
I was fortunate enough to call Cottage Muttenz my home for a few months in the Summer of 2006 while interning in Basel and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Muttenz is a town just on the cusp of Basel (the Basel Euro 2008 stadium is right on the border between Muttenz and Basel). The town is on the river and there is easy access to Basel with frequent tram and sporadic train transport to Basel's center. The cottage itself is why you should stay here when visiting this area though, no matter your mode of transport. The cottage is actually a renovated former unattached garage (although you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at it) with two floors. The main floor is partially built into the side of the hill, which doesn't hinder the light, and looks out over the family's garden. The first floor has a nice kitchen, living and dining room (all in one large room basically). The living room has a TV/computer (the screen doubles as a computer monitor and TV, well, it should triple as a radio, but I never got any reception). The breakfast is self-served with deli meat (prosciutto or the like, not like turkey), fresh bread, cheese, yogurt, cereal and the beverages. There are dishes, pots and pans if you would like to save money and cook your own meals as well (in addition to a fridge where you can put your food). The second floor holds the bedrooms (there are two, one significantly larger than the other). The smaller room has a bathroom, which is not in the room, but shouldn't be a shared bathroom as the other room has an ensuite bathroom. Both bedrooms have a TV and a double bed (or two singles). The larger bedroom has a pull out couch as well so you can fit another person in that one. Decor is mostly Ikea; minimalistic looks nice in here. It makes it seem like there is even more space than there is already. Cottage definitely defines this space. There is also a small garden in the back of the cottage with a place to sit and relax. This B&B is about a ten minute walk to the nearest tram station and only a block further from that is a COOP grocery store. You might be able to park a car in front of the host house or in the back. The hosts are very friendly and speak German, French, Spanish and English (perhaps even other langauges!). Current pricing on their website lists from 70 CHF per adult per night and from 25 CHF per child per night, which, granted, used to be a better deal, but is still a good rate for the accomodations that you receive. Also, you can get a discount for longer stays. Their website id cottage.allcom-ing.ch. I highly recommend this location to anyone visiting this area for a short or long period of time!
