James Gettys Hotel: Quaint and Delightful

The James Gettys Hotel is very different from your usual hotel experience. Each of the twelve suites has its own name and theme. We stayed in the "Union Hotel Suite" which was the name of the hotel during the battle of Gettysburg.

As you enter the suite, you're in the sitting room/kitchenette. To your left is the bedroom. To your right is the bathroom. There was a basket on the table with fresh baked cookies. On the counter was a basket with fresh zucchini muffins and raspberry coffee cake for us to enjoy for breakfast the next morning. (The baked goods changed daily.) The rest of our breakfast was in the refrigerator - fruit cups, orange juice, and a small pitcher of fresh cream. There were packages of locally roasted coffee (caf & decaf) and a selection of teas.

One of my biggest complaints is usually noise, but there wasn't a problem at the James Gettys Hotel. Our suite was directly across the hall from the elevator, but we never heard it. Our bedroom window overlooked a courtyard shared by the hotel and the Blue Parrot Bistro. The patrons of the Blue Parrot were a little loud on Friday night, but only for a short amount of time. I don't think we saw or heard any other guests of the hotel during our stay despite knowing that they had a full house that weekend.

The hotel is conveniently located downtown, making it easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Going to the battlefields or the outlets will require hopping in the car for a short drive.
