Good for Those Who Want a Quiet Night!

Generally you have two kinds of hostels, interactive ones which are designed for fun and mingling where travellers share their stories and normally form little social groups or the kind where the design of the building doesn't really permit for this to be possible and the hostel builds up a reputation as "just a place to sleep", that's what I would say about the Red Star Hostel in Sofia. It's clean, it's tidy, it has very comfortable beds and is nicely decorated in a minimalistic way, it's also located very centrally, just off the central part of the main street so you can't get much closer to the center than this.
The hostel does have a tendency to attract the quieter guest who may prefer to keep themselves to themselves or have an early night in preparation for the day of sightseeing or trip that awaits them the following day. This makes it ideal for a number of types of people but not people who prefer the more social aspect of hostelling.
However, don't let this put you off because of it's central location it's also within easy walking distance to some of Sofia's finest pubs and clubs.
The hostel includes what's necessary these days:
A free breakfast (Bulgarian pastry & coffee)
Free internet
Free use of the kitchen
Free safe & lockers
Free hot showers
Free bed linen
A paid laundry service (I can't remember how much as I didn't use it)
The rooms start at 10 euros and you can choose from dorms, single, double, triple, quadruple and private apartments that are adjacent to the hostel. There is no curfew and the staff are very helpful (they even phoned a friend when trying to work out where would be a good place for me to hitchhike to Belgrade!)
