GAL Apartments Vienna

Most of Vienna's central hotels and bed&breakfast places were fully booked for the duration of our intended visit from as early as April. Gal apartments was a Godsend due to its location and price.

The Gal apartments are located in one of the oldest section of district 1, within walking distance to the subway U1 Nestroyplatz that will bring you to U1 stops of Stephansplatz and Karlsplatz where most tourist sights are located, 15 mins walk to the Prater, the oldest ferris wheel dating back the the 19th century and 7 mins walk to the Danube river where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the river that Johann Strauss made famous with his Blue Danube waltz.

We chose to stay in the Category D service apartment that could easily accommodate up to 5 persons (a bit of a squeeze though). The apartment is 60sqm and has a separate shower and toilet, a fully equipped kitchen (although the knives were a tad blunt), a living room, a bedroom and an ante-room.

The living room has a convertible sofa that sleeps 2 and a sofa couch for 1 while the bedroom has a double bed with wall to wall wardrobe. We were charged €360 per person for an 8-day stay, inclusive of taxes, electricity and water charges and weekly cleaning services . The apartment was comfortable and well maintained in general. Our apartment was located in the main block, above a physiotherapist clinic. Only 1 staff spoke English but she was very helpful.

Grouses
We found it inconvenient to contact the manager. We had to convey our messages to him via the English speaking therapist during the day. The toilet bulb had blown towards the end of our stay and we had requested it to be replaced, this was not done, nor was there any cleaning service even though we had stayed for 8 days.

Pros
Karmelitermarkt is about 10mins walk from the apartment and has a good selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and meat. Nearer to the apartments are smaller grocery shops, bakeries and restaurants serving Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican and fast food (Macdonald's). In short, you will not go hungry.

Do email the manager if you are arriving after 5pm for specific instructions on how to locate your keys and apartment. Gal also assists in arranging airport transfer for E30 which includes the driver's tip (so do not pay or tip the taxi driver when you arrive!). If you require a receipt, be sure to make your request to the Gal manager when you check in.
