Yesterday I had some business in Sirkeci (near Sultanahmet) and afterwards I decided to pay a visit to Sirkeci Konak Hotel which was just nearby. This was because I was curious about the consistently #1 rated hotel by TA (out of hundreds of hotels in Istanbul that are rated by TA). Here are my observations.

As soon as I got in, I met Menekse Goker who happens to be the Guest Relations Manager. She is a pretty, young, charming and a very well educated lady (Masters degree from Glamorgan University in UK in Hotel Management). She offered me their famous apple tea and we chatted about Sirkeci, Sirkeci Konak Hotel, customer wants and desires, customer satisfaction,service quality, etc. She explained that they continuously seek the highest degree of customer satisfaction and even want to go beyond that at times. No customer ever stands in front of any counter for check in and while they sip their apple tea in the lobby (just like I did) they are checked in and their passports returned to them. Every guest is greeted with big smiles and a very warm welcome and they are continuously asked if they need something or if the hotel can do something for them. All the staff at the hotel is continously trained for the goal of maximizing customer satisfaction and the fact that they reach alnost 100% occupancy rate at this time of the year is a proof of that.

Later I had a chance to meet with Mr. Faruk Boyaci who is the owner the hotel and chairman of the board of a group that runs four hotels in Sirkeci. He is a young (early fortyish), smart, dynamic, and resourceful man singlemindedly ccommitted to total customer satisfaction and higher quality standards. Later he personally gave me a full tour of the facilities. The exceptionally appointed deluxe rooms, very modern bathrooms, view terrace, enclosed swimming pool, health club, turkish hamam, sauna and massage rooms were all very clean and tastefully designed and decorated. In fact the hotel is a conversion from an older business building but now looks and feels like old Ottoman mansions. It is in every sense of the word a "grand boutique hotel". It is about 100 meters from the Gulhane tram stop and the hotel itself is on a quiet side street and overlooks the Topkapi Palace Gardens(Gulhane Park). It is very conveniently located nearby all Sultanahmet attractions.

This is naturally not an inexpensive hotel (The online hotel websites give a minimum of about 150 USD/day rate for this hotel during winter season). However in my judgement the price/value relationship is simply outstanding. Although I have never stayed at this hotel as a guest, from what I have read and heard directly from hotel managers and staff and from especially what I personally observed at the hotel, I would highly recommend this hotel to discerning visitors to Istanbul who are after excellent value.

I personally think that those forum members who live in Istanbul, hopefully can visit some of the hotels and restaurants we talk about whenever they can find time for it, and give us their reviews. Close
