Okavango Delta Campsites

Best Things Nearby:
Wildlife! Almost every African animal known is within easy access from these sites. All the cats (lions, leopards, and cheetah), elephants, hippos, game (kudu, zebra, reebok, impala, etc.), and birds and more birds. Game runs occurred between breakfast and lunch and then between lunch and dinner. There were a couple of times we had night game runs using bright search lights to note nocturnal animals.
With the exception of Jacana, each campsite offered a touring jeep to allow excellent game viewing.

Best Things About the Resort:
It had great access to wildlife with excellent accommodations. The service, food, and tents were mostly very good.

Resort Experience:
In Botswana, we had a variety of campsites, including:
1) Boabob Campsite (Basic): Good locale with hippos in the pool right in front and a place for walking safaris. The tent had an open area in back serving as the bath. There was a crew-filled bucket for showers. The dining area was primitive and open, but the landscape was quite interesting with baobab trees lurking about.
2) Linyanti Campsite (Very nice): Sat on the border with Namibia. There were many elephants and hippos hanging around. The tents had beautiful redwood/tiled bathrooms using solar-heated water. Beds were fixed with a mattress inside a "permanent" tent on a foundation. Dining here was wonderful - good food and a great view at sunset.
3) Mombo Campsite (Medium): Nicer than Baobob, with good dinners and tents facing outwards to allow viewing from tents. This is one of the best areas for cat and wild dog viewing.
4) Jacana Campsite (Very nice): Only way there is by the local canoes, but it is worth it. On a very small island in the channel, the accommodations were excellent and very colorful. This has the best opportunity to enjoy the water-related activities with birds.
