1) High-class hotels:
Batam’s six best hotels are the Melia Panorama, Goodway (the ex-Mandarin), Novotel, and Planet Holiday in Nagoya. There is also the Holiday Inn and the Harris Resort at Waterfront City.

2) Mid-range hotels:
The Hotel Sahid Rashinta has lovely grounds and a big pool. Standard rooms cost from S$35 to S$40 while deluxes go for S$55 to S$60. Make sure everything works before you accept the room. At S$45, the Island View is the best value for your money. Make sure the air-conditioner works. There are plenty of other mid-range hotels, including the Puri Garden, but most are far from the NED entertainment district.

3) Budget hotels:
The Pelangi, above KFC in Jodoh, is an excellent value. You can see the Hotels Grand Palace and Memori from the front door of Lucy’s Oarhouse. Both are an okay value for under S$30. Or walk up the street that has the fruit stalls in the middle of the road; you will see many budget hotels in the side streets. Inspect the room first, as some small hotels are much better than others.
