The town of Thornbury is wonderful. There are excellent restaurants; we ate at the Mill Café twice. There are wonderful shops and boutiques, many of which you would not expect to find in a small town up north. My conclusion is that people with taste must visit Thornbury on a regular basis. You can find antiques, fresh produce, and honey at roadside stands; apples in the fall; farmer's markets; and unique annual events, like the Meaford Scarecrow Festival, which started the week we were there. Have you ever seen a town completely filled with scarecrows? There were scarecrows everywhere: on lawns and hanging from roofs, light posts, and even on the sign as you drive into Meaford.Best Things About the Resort:The resort is right across the road from the lake. The view is spectacular, especially at sunset. It is a very peaceful setting. The is an indoor salt water pool, game room, gym, outdoor tennis courts, and there is also boating and fishing. It is close to major ski resorts and beaches. Resort Experience:The resort is made up of hotel rooms and two-bedroom condos. There are three levels and no elevators. We were on the top level in a two-bedroom unit. The decor reminded me of a summer cottage up north, which is what it was, but in a resort style.
We stayed the third week in September 2004. The weather was gorgeous, especially after the cool rainy summer we had. The last week of summer/first week of fall turned out to be the nicest week we had all year!
Our living, dining, and kitchen areas overlooked a huge deck. There was a gas fireplace in the living area. There was access from the unit to the deck. A separate key is required for the back and front door of the units. Although the kitchen area was small, it was well equipped. They were a little short on pots and pans for four people, but we managed. If you can, I recommend bringing a frying pan with you. There were two very small bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom with a stand-up shower. The other bathroom, with a bathtub, was beside the second bedroom. Both bathrooms were stocked with soap, shampoo, hand cream, etc. Towels were limited. There was no washer and dryer unit in the condo, but laundry facilities were on site.

The Georgian trail runs right in front of the resort. This is a biking trail that runs along Georgian Bay - great summer fun!
