Peppers Springs Resort

The night we spent here was memorable. Located at the hub of the Spa Country, the award winning Peppers Springs Retreat makes an ideal base for all the area's attractions and is within easy walking distance of the renowned Hepburn Spa Resort, which is currently under renovation.

A variety of accommodation styles are available — ranging from Garden rooms, to luxuriously appointed Hotel and Spa rooms to the newly opened Villa Parma.

Peppers Springs Retreat is an iconic Art Deco establishment with a dash of Gatsby glamour. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and bush, the retreat provides plenty of the pampering for which the area is renowned.

Built in 1935, the main building has been beautifully restored, combining the character of the art deco building with contemporary decor using rich warm colours.

Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of our stay was dinner in DECO restaurant. It's excellent food is best described as modern Australian but each dish also has its own unique twist. The gorgeously appointed interior incorporates classic art deco features in a refined dining space. The meal was superb. I had salad of red roasted belly of Wessex saddleback pork and fried prawn with a blood orange and chilli caramel sauce as an entree. It was just brilliant.

I followed this with Asian roasted duck leg with baby bok choy, steamed rice and lotus seeds with a Thai red curry sauce then filled up the last remaining spaces with warm apple crumble with rhubarb compote and cinnamon ice cream

The relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the Club Bar provides the ideal setting and ambiance for a pre-dinner drink or after dinner cocktail by the wood fire.

The other attraction is the day spa. Stepping into the newly created Springs Retreat Mineral Spa, we entered a sanctuary of calm. Tucked away at the back of the retreat, the spa houses 3 open air mineral pools, a sauna, steam room and 8 treatments rooms offering a good range of rejuvenating therapies.

The unique Steam Room, plunges red hot granite rocks into a copper cauldron filled with lavender scented water, releasing clouds of skin-cleansing steam while you sit back, soothed by the water feature wall, and music contemplating the finer things in life.

I recommend letting the expert staff massage away your stresses and strains while you recline on one of the Soft Pack treatment beds. Direct from Europe, the Soft Pack is designed so that your body literally floats, giving a feeling of weightless tranquility.

Then enjoy the mineral spa hydrotherapy baths. Luxuriate in algae bath essences while up to 180 individual jets gently wash away your tensions and toxins, leaving you feeling fresh and revived.

You are pampered from the moment you walk in through the door and receive your robe and slippers, to the time you wander, refreshed and rejuvenated, back to the relaxation lounge for calming cup of tea. I see nothing at all wrong with that.
