Kyriad Toulouse Centre

The Hotel Kyriad Centre is in the centre of Toulouse (surprise surprise) and is easily accessible, being only 10 minutes walk from the main station where the airport shuttle bus drops you off. It's situated on the main Boulevard de la Gare, by the Canal du Midi.

You're never quite sure what to expect when you check in at a new hotel, but the staff were efficient and friendly, which was a good start. We went up to our room on the 4th floor by one of the two lifts available. Our room was small, but functional, and the bathroom turned out to have a bath (albeit a short one) as well as a shower above it. It was also larger than expected compared to the size of the room, had ample towels and a wall-fixed hairdryer.

Back in the room there was a plasma screen TV in the corner, with a range of terrestrial and digital channels, though only one in English (BBC World). There was a long desk under the window with a little cupboard under it, and also a little tray with a kettle, biscuits, and tea and coffee making facilities which was nice. There were two small bedside tables, and a built in clothes hanging facilities between the room and the bathroom. The decor was fairly bland but inoffensive, with a variety of lighting, and one full length mirror. Pretty much what you expect from a chain hotel, to be fair.

The hotel is about 10 minutes from the centre of Toulouse and there are a range of little bars and restaurants even closer than that - which makes walking home afterwards nicer! The Irish Pub "de Danu" on the opposite corner on the other side of the Midi serves some of the cheapest beer in town too, if that's your kind of place.

Price-wise, I booked through Easyjet and paid £130 for 3 nights (the advertised rate is 85 euros per double room per night) thus saving around £45. The buffet breakfast is an extra 7 euros per head, but that didn't interest us, what with several good boulangeries in the vicinity, and plenty of places to grab a good coffee.

So, nothing too spectacular, but nothing disastrous either. The room was cleaned and the bedding changed every day, and they did a good job too. After three nights there, there were only three real niggles about the place. The hot water took a long time to come through. The bathroom light flickered for a while before staying on. And the bed wasn't the most comfortable ever. However the room was clean and tidy, the air-conditioning worked just fine, the staff were helpful if not always cheerful, and it was nice and quiet. Overall the hotel made a good budget base for our stay in Toulouse.
