I Would Never Recommend This Place!

Location is great but we did not enjoy even a bit staying at Perouse Lodge.

We traveled around world for a year, stayed every kind of accomodation, but it was the first time a receptionist offended me when I asked if we could check in prior to 3pm (check in time). I was so shocked the way she treated me. Clearly, she thinks that she could treat anyway she likes because the payment is done in advance. I can not see any other reason. When we asked to cancel the reservation, she said that we cant. And then, when I asked her name and hotel manager, she refused to give me any information. Besides, she said that even though there are rooms on the upper floors, she would give us a room at the bottom floor, where there is no daylight. What a great start.!!

And then no room service for 5 days unless you pay $25 (even in the hostels they do daily service!!) Carpet was dirty and smelly.
No garbage bin in the toilet
You have to go out to hall to find a clean towel
TV does not show movie channels as promised. TV magazine in the room dated back to 2003
And, more importantly "Payment is done in advance, so there is nothing you can do if you do not like the place or service"!!!

Even though internet was included in our room package, we could not use it for 3 days. And then they said we had to pay extra. When I found the confirmation email and confronted them, they said why I hadnt told them before that it was included.

Very unpleasant stay. It is a shame that hotel management let work a receptionist who clearly has no idea about hospitality management. Because, Australia is the place where you get the best service at hotels and restaurants...

I've Stayed in Better Backpackers

Did not injoy stay at this lodge I too have stayed in better back packers. It was dirty eg. had mould on grouting and ceiling of the bathroom also I found a cockroach. I guess this is because the rooms are not regularly serviced infact you have to grab a towel on a first come first served bases from a table.
The rooms are so small and the airconditioning rattled so you could not sleep with it on. When I asked about this the receptionist told me to turn it up, even at 24C it still rattled but we were told there was nothing wrong with it. They were not very helpful at all.
Also charged for the whole stay straight away without any warning.

I Would Rather Go to Backpackers than Stay Here Again

I recently stayed at Perouse Lodge and found their website rather misleading.

They fail to tell you that in order to have your room serviced it's an extra $25. They also failed to tell me this when I checked in.

The double rooms barely had enough room for you to move around the bed so in order for someone to get pass, one of you had to climb onto the bed. We were not the only individuals staying there with this complaint.

Also they did not inform us that payment was required at the beginning of our stay. Instead they debited a credit card without authorisation (and might I add the wrong card) in the midst of our stay till it maxed out. Needless to say when we went to pay for lunch that day and our card declined, we were less than impressed. When we confronted the receptionist about this issue we were met with an abrassive individual who said it was her right to charge the card, that she did not need to inform us of this transaction and that this was common practice in many hotels as she had worked in many 5 star hotels before and this was their practice (she did not mention whether she worked as a cleaner but I could tell by her customer service why she no longer worked in one). She also had limited knowledge on how to fix this problem as if she merely voided the transaction the money would go back onto the card within 24hrs instead she refunded the amount which took 7 days in order to process.

I'm also concerned with the lack of information on fire safety. No evacuation procedure was to be founhd anywhere. Also the fire alarms on fault setting thus they would not be set of in the case of a fire rendering them useless.

The information folder in the room had out of date prices for the cafe below which were misleading and gave no number for the hotel in order for relatives to contact us if need be.

To be frank I have stayed in better backpackers then here. I would not recommend staying here to anyone. Not value for money.

Perouse Lodge

Perouse Lodge

The Perouse Lodge is one of three lodges that form part of the The Ranwick Lodge group.

The lodge has been newly renovated and each room has been freshly painted with new curtains, new ensuite bathrooms, and new furnishings.

We had booked a double room for the night. Our room was obviously used as either a twin room or a double room as our bed was actually two single beds pushed together. Nothing wrong with that though - we had a great nights sleep and the bed was very comfortable.

The contents of the room consisted of a colour TV, a DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge, a double or two single beds, bed side tables, a writing table and chairs, a new air conditioning unit, a wardrobe and a newly refurbished ensuite. DVD’s were available for hire at the reception area.

Just outside the Lodge’s entry door is a small café that appeared to be very popular as every time we walked past it there were plenty of people sitting in there sipping on hot coffees/teas or eating delicious looking cakes or other yummy goodies.

A two-minute walk down the road you will find the Royal Randwick Hotel. This is an extremely popular pub if the crowds on the Saturday night were anything to go by. It is not just popular for its beverages but also the restaurant area was also overflowing. The meals on the menu sounded delicious but, because we hadn’t booked, there was nowhere to sit and eat so we didn’t bother.

That’s OK though because just another two-minute walk along the main street of Randwick you’ll come across heaps of restaurants with any type of variety you like – there’s Chinese, Asian, European, takeaway joints, Pizza and Italian – just to name a few. So the eating around here is more than good, it’s great, as it is the drinking.

If you enjoy the beach life then Coogee Beach is but a 10 minute walk down Coogee Bay Road (located directly opposite the Royal Randwick Hotel).

Buses, which regularly drive along Perouse Road, can drop you off right on the beachfront promenade – it’ll only cost you $1.90. The bus stop is directly opposite the Perouse Lodge’s front door.

Maybe you’d like a day at the races – get on the bus heading towards the city of Sydney (the bus stop is outside the Royal Randwick Hotel) and it’s only a 10-minute trip. That way you can drink.

If you want to shop for something unusual or just that little bit different then stay on the bus heading to Sydney and go to Oxford Street, Paddington. It’s just a 15-minute trip.

Or if you want to do the BIG shopping trip then stay on the bus until you reach the city of Sydney itself – it’s just another 10 minutes.
