It was late at night and I was tired. Following directions from the woman at a crossroads gas station, I turned off on Twenty Mule Team Road. Boron has two motels, both small and apparently doing good business. I checked in to the Boron Motel. The room was, as I expected, pretty rustic but it was clean, and the woman at the front desk was nice. They didn't have nonsmoking rooms, so the room had a mild tobacco odor, rather pleasant actually. It had a mini fridge and a microwave, and even shampoo.
The sign only said cable TV with HBO and Showtime, and I assumed I wouldn’t be able to get online. But I turned on my computer to upload some photos and lo and behold, the motel had wireless Internet! It made my night. The bed was comfortable and I slept well, barely waking up to hear the train that goes right by, with whistles.
If you ever, for some strange reason, find yourself in Boron for the night, and you don't require any frills in your accommodations, I recommend a stay at the Boron Motel.
