The IYH Hofn was such a godsend in expensive Iceland. The lady at the receptionist desk could not have been any friendlier and flexible. A day before, I had made reservations to stay here, but we did not move along quickly enough, so we ended up overnighting within Fjallabak National Park. I called and cancelled the reservation and she said that it was no problem and there was never any mention of cancellation fees (try any other IYH in Europe and you will immediately see the difference). The next day, we got to Hofn and I popped by at the IYH hoping for a room, as we had not made a prior reservation. What a relief it was to find out that she had simply brought forward my reservation, as she anticipated that we would be there a day later! We checked into our private double room within 5 minutes of arrival, then headed out for dinner.
The rooms are spick and span, and there is even a lounge on the second floor filled with travel magazines and newspapers. The clean washroom is common to all four rooms on the second floor. I would not hesitate to stay at the IYH Hofn anytime again.
