Aston Hotel

This was a brilliant base for two days of Dublin shopping. Just off O'Connell Street and right beside Temple Bar, the Aston Hotel doesn't look like much from outside. Once you enter, however, it's clean and fresh.

We had pre-booked a triple room over the phone and paid on arrival. It cost only €105 for the three of us, with a further €7 each if we wanted a continental breakfast the next day, or €10 if you wanted the full Irish fry.

Although we arrived too early for our rooms to be ready, the friendly staff let us leave our bags over so we could shop with free hands. The same applied the next day after checkout.

The room was clean but small, perfect for us who planned only to spend a few hours there but perhaps not so good if you wanted space to move about. The bathroom was the only thing about which you could complain, it had been made up for two people even though the room was for three.

When we booked the hotel, we wanted it to be situated so we could walk back after a night out in Temple Bar. It was so close to everything that we felt really safe staying out late. And we slept so well after our night out that we never made it to breakfast!

Although it was basic, I'll definitely be back here. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the location fantastic, both as a base for leaving off shopping bags full of bargains and a close and central place to return to after a night out in Temple Bar.
