I don't know who rated the "Blue Moon" hotel 3-1/2 stars, its more like 1-1/2 stars. I'm aware the hotel was built in the 1930's, but the Blue Moon, could still maintain there theme, and modernize the hotel from the rooms to the elevator. I called the hotel, and was told the hotel was recently renovated, and it has many different themes throughout the hotel, and most importantly, "I would have a wonderful stay there" excellent sales pitch, I guess I stayed in the wrong hotel to get what he said??? Outside of the location, the hotel was AWEFUL!!!. The rooms advertised on the travel websites, are just a sales pitch, that is not the room you will get if you book through a travel website. I was told, I got the older room because I didn't book directly throught the hotel. I spoke with an agent after booking my room, and inquired about the rooms, and was told, that the handicap rooms are much larger than the regular rooms, and all of the rooms were recently renovated in January, I specifically told him, I did not want a handicap room, and he assured me that I would get a regular room. Once I checked in, that wasn't the case, the front desk attendant told me that was the only room available was a handicap room, room 108. This room was the PITTS!!! The carpet was dirty, the room was the size of a closet, the bathroom was in desparate need of renovation, there was mold and mildew all over, there is no dresser for your personal, it had a stail smell about the room, and the ceiling fan had a severe wobble, as if it was about to fall from the ceiling, this room needs to be renovated. Now, the grand finale around 2:00 am, there is this extremely loud, annoying water drip in the walls between the T.V. case and the closet, which kept us awake all night. I complained to the midnight desk clerk, and he told me, the hotel was completely sold out, and I would have to get up bu 7:30 am to talk with the morning manager, I did, and was eventually given a nicer room. If you choose this hotel, don't be surprised if you don't get what you asked for, but the location is GREAT!!!, and be prepared to carry you own luggage. There's only one elevator, the sixe of a matchbox. Cheap is not always better..........

Two things that were bad about this hotel: the front desk staff all had terrible attitudes -- at one point someone actually asked me, "What's your problem?" while I was waiting for them to retrieve my bags. Also, my hotel room had a lot of ants in the bathroom.

My wife and I stayed at the Blue Moon for two nights before a cruise. Price was fair but the best part of staying here was the staff and the easy walking distance to restaurants on Ocean Drive. The front desk people and bellmen were friendly and knowledgeable. Yes, the rooms are very, very small but this is not the Hilton! The extra fee should be included in the room rate if it is not optional! My wife and I will go back to the Blue Moon the next time we're in Miami for a cruise. .

this is a great place to stay when in South Beach - the rooms were decorated with a great modern taste, mine overlooked the pool and had a huge window in the walk-in closet! it has two buildings and I stayed in the one that's further away from the front desk and if you dont have a lot of luggage, totally worth it since it's quiet! but the old-school elevator takes some getting used to and is kinda of slow, but only needed if you dont want to carry heavy luggage up a flight of stairs. the lobby area & bar were so cool that we actually hung out there for a while!
