We finally visited the island in October and loved this inn. What a great fall destination! The leaves were just turning and the island was much quieter than in summer months. We stayed at the Century House bed and breakfast, a beautiful historic building surrounded with great views. The rooms are decorated with paintings of Nantucket, antique furniture and books. We even met some of the artists that were painting then. The location is great for walking or simply sitting on the porch to relax without any crowd noise. Fantastic staff and an awesome breakfast! Loved our experience. Look forward to coming back in June 2008 to see the roses.

From journal Week to Nantucket - Stayed at Century House

Century House

Nantucket Island is our favorite place to visit. We bike ride via the bike trails, which are always breezy. We swim at Jetties Beach, but recently we found a more private beach which was suggested by the innkeepers at the Century House. White Elephant is beautiful and we used to stay there. We now love the idea of a bed-and-breakfast, close to downtown and to the water. We stay at the Century House every summer nowadays because it is walking distance to everything and we can sit outside and enjoy the weather in the evening before going to dinner. We love eating at Le Languedoc, The Pearl, American Seasons and Water Street (an organic food) restaurant also suggested. One of the best seafood menu is 21 Federal. Those are among our favorites. Sandwiches at Something Natural are the best. They are located on Cliff Road just above the Harbor House, and Century House. I come with my husband to enjoy the island without having to worry about a hectic life which is why we stay on Cliff Road, which is in a historic district. This is the location we found to be the most quiet, elegant and convenient. We love to walk downtown on different streets as well. We try to take a different path each time and marvel at the beautiful flowers.

We have not found another destination more beautiful and relaxing anywhere else. Martha's Vineyard is close to Nantucket, however, it's becoming more commercial each year. We love the originality of Nantucket... and can't wait to return and stay at the Century House.

During my retirement years my husband and I decided to travel. Our recent endeavor took us to Nantucket Island. I can say that the island is one of the most interesting places in the world, rich in history, beauty, charm, and the best food. We stayed at the Century House, a bed-and-breakfast that was recommended to us. When we arrived on the island it seemed very peaceful. We walked from the ferry to the inn and enjoyed the ocean breeze and the warm sunrays. Homemade chocolate chip cookies were awaiting us. And then our room, a king size bed, plenty of books to read, and the verandah where we could sit early in the morning and eat breakfast berries. Flowers were everywhere. We walked into town on cobblestoned streets amazed at the old homes. We were told about a close by beach, semi-private, so we walked there. On our way we stopped for some sandwiches. Truly the best bread I ever had, fresh baked daily. I still dream about the breakfast and the bread which is also served mornings at the inn. I can't wait to return. The price was just right. I felt we stayed at a luxury B&B because of all the modern amenities, beautifully decorated rooms, super clean and comfortable, yet family like atmosphere. We also met other couples. The best part was sitting in the garden or on the verandah after a long day. They had everything we needed. The staff recommended great restaurants and activities. My husband and I will likely return to the Century House and make this a permanent vacation.
