Description: We stayed at Muchenje as part of a tour package and loved every minute of it. It was moderately priced (as safari lodges go) and the location was excellent.
The lodge has a main building which houses the kitchen and dining area as well as a lounge area that overlooks the Chobe River. It is decorated in a typical African style with timber furniture and African fabrics. It is an open air room that lets you breath in the untouched feeling of Botswana.
The lodge has 10 thatched cottages that sleep 2 people each. So there is a very intimate feeling about the place.
Guest eat together family style in the dining area and the guest go together on game drives. The staff are so knowledgeable about the area and all the animals in the park. I do not think we could have had a better time anywhere else.
The cottages were well maintained and very spacious. Since the lodge is so far away from even the nearest town there is no telephone service in the individual cottages, but that was a nice change. Wake up calls were someone knocking at your door. Each cottage has a little deck with a table and chairs that has an amazing view. There was a very nice pool there, however, we never got around to using it since we were so busy with game drives and river cruises.
The staff couldn't be better. They were friendly and helpful. The lodge also had free laundry service, which came in very handy after a few days in Africa and only a small suitcase.
Since this is very far away from civilization, I wouldn't recommend this to families with children under the age of 15 or anyone who may have a medical condition. But anyone else looking for a great safari, look no further.
