The Hotel Continental has a great Portuguese flare to it in terms of its design and decor. The lobby area had been recently refurbished and given more of an African feel with lots of handmade wooden bowls, statutes, and such.
Sitting at the base of a hill under the 16th-century Sao Miguel fortress, this quaint little four-story hotel overlooks a busy public square and the bay. The view is made all the better from the roof-top terrace, which contains a bar and pool table in addition to the usual deck furniture one would expect on a hotel terrace. It's a great place to hang out and watch all the action in the city as long as there is a slight wind to keep the malaria-laden biters at bay.
