Description: We have just returned from this incredible resort 100% satisfied. If you are on a tight budget or have a problem splurging, I don’t recommend Jalousie. This hotel is not for penny pinchers. But if you are looking for a truly memorable and relaxing first-class vacation, Jalousie is perfect.
We visited the second week of June when the weather was perfect and occupancy was light. I highly recommend booking this property in the off season. No crowds, great service, no waiting, and great deals.
My wife and I are experienced world travelers from Florida and in our fifties. We were looking for a nine-night escape, minus our teens. This was by far the most romantic and relaxing vacation we have taken in our 21 years of marriage.
The Villa: Old but very clean with an incredible view of the Pitons and the ocean. Air conditioning, plumbing, lighting, and television all worked well. The splash pool was clean despite earlier negative reviews on this topic and the privacy was wonderful. No complaints on the accommodation. If you are looking for sparking new contemporary rooms, then the villas might not be your thing, but if you are happy with a clean, quaint, romantic abode, the villas of Jalousie should fit your desires perfectly.
The Food: Food is a bit pricy, but so is food at most other resorts. We found all meals quite good with a nice variety of choices. Unless you plan on renting a car, I recommend purchasing the full meal plan which also includes drinks. Our favorite venue was “The Pier” which delivers an incredible view at sunset. We found “The Plantation” a bit stiff for our liking, although the food was outstanding. “Bayside” serves up a perfect lunch every day with a wide array of Caribbean salads, fresh fish, and grilled meats.
The Spa: What a deal! Make sure you ask about the pre-paid spa package that gives you five spa treatments for under $300! I bought extras and enjoyed a Swedish massage every afternoon- talk about relaxing. Pay the extra money and get an open air message which looks out over the ocean and the Pitons. You’ll never forget it. The staff are very professional.
Snorkeling: Incredible. There are lots of specimens of sea life and it is very easy and safe. Your equipment is provided free and this is a must-do.
Daytrips: We visited the volcano and the nearby waterfall/baths and enjoyed the experience. Make sure you take a swim suit, water bottle, and towel. The cab ride into Soufriere was a waste of time and money. There was no shopping to speak of except for food and drinks in the local grocery store. We were constantly accosted by panhandlers, to the point we were anxious to get back to the hotel.
The bottom line: We hope to return. We enjoyed the laid back feeling at Jalousie Plantation. No complaints from us. By far, one of our most memorable and relaxing holidays of our lifetime. We highly recommend Jalousie.
