Healy's Restaurant & Country House Hotel

When we saw Healy's listed on the Ireland website for a unique place to stay in County Mayo, we were so happy to find just what we wanted for a lake centered environment. It was perfect, and we had such a great time. We loved the view of the lake, the rush weeds that lined the water around the bankings, the play of the sun as it settled over the water. So peaceful and relaxing, especially after our busy day of traveling from Tipperary, through Roscommon and finally to County Mayo on Lough Cullin. Pontoon is situated in between two lakes on Route R310 off R318 which is off N26 which is off of N5.
We are partial to fine dining and we were so happy with the elegant dining room in spite of the Fishing Lodge environment. It was a wonderful meal, salmon of course with excellent fresh vegetables and salads. Our room was great, not as fancy as we had been in, but comfortable and bright overlooking the lake. We were so happy and content to be in County Mayo and surrounded with the country style of sportsmen. We will most definitely return here again, and plan on spending more time on the lake and the surrounding area. I wish we had known how flexible County Mayo is and that it had so many places to go and things to do.
Healy's is a well preserved Victorian Country House in a wonderful setting, overlooking Lough Cullin. Recently refurbished, it has a marvelous atmosphere and its bedrooms all feature private phones, TVs and tea/coffee making facilities.
The hotel has been home to fishermen and women for more than 160 years. Its restaurant, which has terrific views over the lake, is serviced by excellent chefs and the wine list features over 100 wines.
As well as the fishing, a full range of country sports is available from Healys, including shooting, golf (on championship links and parkland courses), horse riding and racing, walking and mountain climbing. Healys is open all year.

Healy's offers fishing on Loughs Conn & Cullin. The fishing itself is free and can be excellent for both salmon and brown trout. 2002 was a notably good season, with the best salmon runs for many years due to the high water levels.
