For us, the best things nearby were Yorktown and the Colonial Parkway. For my daughter and my grandkids it is Bush Gardens and Williamsburg.
We loved the resort. It has beautiful rooms with bright and cheerful furnishings, a Jacuzzi in the master bedroom and convenient parking.
The resort is fairly new, built in 2001. The reception area is large and roomy but has a welcome atmosphere unlike some very stark and cold reception areas I have seen. The staff at reception is friendly and helpful. There is pressure to attend the timeshare sales pitches but I was able to resist. Of course we were only spending 3 days and I did not want to waste my time on that. One thing I like about Fairfield Points system is the ability to split your weeks. I did the same at the Fairfield Westwinds in Myrtle Beach.
There is a full open kitchen with a butcher-block style counter in the center, which is unusual for a timeshare set up, and quite nice. The washer and dryer were in the second bathroom area and able to be shut off from the rest of the condo while running which was a nice touch. The rooms in our unit were massive and the view was nice and relaxing from our balcony. The furnishings are colonial but bright and cheerful. There is a restaurant on-site but it is not great and there are many more in town that are worth sampling. The pools include an indoor and outdoor and an outdoor children's pool. This is appreciated for adults with no children. There are tennis courts also which seems to be becoming a rarity at resorts. There is so much close by of historical significance with Yorktown, Jamestown, Williamsburg itself as well as some very exciting attractions, such as Bush Gardens and Water Country, that it is hard to find time for shopping but if you do there are some great outlet malls. I would suggest you have fun and plan a second trip just as we are doing.
